She yawned. “I guess so. Cake is relatively easy to soulcast. Should probably go to bed now if I wanna make Robs hammer tomorrow. See you guys later.”

She went upstairs and flopped on the bed. So much had happened. She’d been asked to prom, there was Ben’s fight, and she hadn’t even finished her homework.

Jamie tossed the pistol aside- it was useless against an enraged Koloss anyway- and scrambled backwards. The creature's huge sword slammed into the ground next to her, sending chips of stone flying. It yanked the oversized blade out of the ground, positioning it for another blow.

Oh rusts, here we go. The sword wooshed down towards her and she tapped Fortune and flared pewter, rolling out of the way. Then- still tapping Fortune- she grabbed the blade as it was yanked out of the ground. The Koloss stumbled, unused to such wieght. Jamie was catapulted upwards by this move, twisting in midair so she landed on the creature's shoulders. She clung to it tightly as it spun around trying to get her off.

"It's no use," she grunted, "You're never gonna shake me off." Jamie let go of it with one hand, still tapping a smidgen of Fortune and pulled a small pistol out of her boot. She jammed it against the Koloss's skull.

He bit his lip. He'd specified... "And  all of the rest? The ones all through town and around the other knight people?"

He looked down, grimacing. "So I really am defective... I see them all, all the time. I always have... Every single day of my life." He sighed, intentionally face-planting straight into Ax's chest.

He huffed. "And no spren of my own. The rest of you have one that follows you around. Except that Jamie stranger... I can't do boy-witch magic like you can."

"Um, you do have one," Ax said. "Or you couldn't see everyone else's. Are you pretending it doesn't exist? I pretended that Shamrock was my imaginary friend for a few years." Shamrock was looping around the floor under them.

He huffed. "My earliest memory is of being shocked and injected with weird liquids because of those things, and then meeting one that became my best friend. I've never been able to stop seeing them or I would've a very long time ago." He mumbled and grumbled to himself. "My dad had it growing up, then he forgot about it one day after having a really bad nightmare. He hasn't seen any since."

He flinched. "I know... I don't have... any... of importance..." He looked away, biting his lip. He was trembling now. This single night alone was making him accidentally confront memories he'd been shunning for literally more than a decade.

Rob looked up as Leona left, now there were very few people still watching the movie. Yawning he quietly sat down on an empty spot on the couch. “Oh, that’s a big spider,” he commented.

"Shelob, the last spawn of Ungoliant- a great darkness of the First Age" James quoted from memory. He yawned, but immediately stifled it- he was going to finish this marathon.

Jason trembled in his arms, proceeding everything and trying to pull himself together. "Th-thank you, Ax... let's go to bed... Okay?"

Draug felt the bottom drop out of his stomach as he fell forwards through the darkness. Falling, falling… and then-

Draug felt the world form around him again. It felt blurrier, somehow, as though parts of it weren’t as defined. In front of him was the girl from the airport (he’d forgotten her name) and a scary-looking giant blue humanoid, whom she was fighting.

I’ve landed in her dream, he thought. He hadn’t expected that. Although, to be honest, he hadn’t really known what to expect. He’d been too caught up in panic to expect anything.

Sha-thoexis- that’s right. She was going to attack soon. She’d tear through this poor girl’s mind like it was cotton candy unless he stopped her. He pushed himself to his feet and ran towards the fighting pair, waving his hands and shouting to get attention.

But just as he began to call out words of warning, he felt it; the pressure on the mind that warned of an incoming attack. The scene began to waver in front of him as his usual perception of his mental battles began to take hold, the surroundings beginning to become sandier, the sky cloudier.

“Hey!” he cried out, finally managing to get his mouth to form words. “Look out! I-”

At that moment, Sha-thoexis hit. Draug cried out as a wave exploded through him and rushed towards the defenseless figure farther ahead. He felt the water surround him completely, wrapping him in its cold, dark embrace.

But it was different this time. Before, he’d been fighting her in his own mind. But now… now he was inside her mind, somehow. There were implications there, but he didn’t have time to think about them. The important part was that the whispers- although he could still hear them- weren’t attacking him.

He gritted his teeth and pulled, trying to hold back the wave. It was difficult- tremendously so- but as he did it, he could see the wave parting in front of him, leaving a “safe zone” of sorts for the girl.

It wouldn’t protect her completely. But hopefully it would be enough.

Jason hugged him and went happily, relieved to be going to sleep. He wouldn't have to deal with his past there... he'd be fine. He almost never had bad dreams, and he'd be sleeping with Ax. How could anything possibly go wrong?

Yeah, I think once we finish this marathon subplot it would be right. Maybe James will even be able to ask someone out for it. :P

Jamie emptied the clip into the Koloss's head. It stumbled, bright red blood pouring out of its head. It fell into the sand with a thump.

Wait. Why sand? I fight in the mountains, usually.

That's when she noticed the young man running towards her. He was yelling, but her ears still rang from the gunfire, so she couldn't understand him. She was about to ask him what his problem was when a wave hit her. She spluttered, trying to get above water, but horrible whispers surrounded her, sapping her will.

No! This is not how I'm gonna die!

She screamed, bubbles forming a maelstrom around her, and burned pewter. Strengh surged through her body. It's not enough, she though, feeling defeated. No, it can't end like this! IT WON'T END LIKE THIS!

Jamie reached deep inside herself, reaching for some extra reserve of power. She strained, whispers still filling her ears. The pewter was helping her hold her breath, but she would suffocate soon anyway.

She kicked upwards, once, twice, and burst out of the water, gasping.
