I thought larkin were bird-like? Maybe I've just been thinking about them wrong.

and don't they suck Stormlight from Surgebinders? Why would they be on the KR chart?

You forgot the

!

Anyway, I've seen them too. Never thought much of it.

It looks like they're eating one of the orders. Consuming the stormlight, maybe?

They might just be some random symbolic thing for consumption of stormlight, but...

Gah, I had a reason of why they would be there and I've forgotten it!

I always assumed they were Larkin as well, which are Arthropods with wings. Seems to fit the description pretty well, as does having them "eating" a surgebinder on the chart. I expect, based on the Lift and Rysn interludes, they will play an important role.

Gah, someone is going to have to help me track this down, but I could have sworn that there was a WoB where he talked about the "2 greatshells in the KR chart which combine to make the head of a single larger greatshell"??

Was that in the actual book with characters discussing that somewhere from tWoK? was it a discussion here somewhere?

I vividly remember someone saying that those were 2 different winged greatshells which then form the forward facing head of another greatshell stylistically.

It's reminiscent of "animal ornamentation" from the Viking era in Europe.

It's the Bondsmith symbol they're chomping on.

Since we learn about a Bondsmith in WoR, and we know that person's goal, this seems like a bad thing.

this WoB is relevant to this thread as well. They are small shelled creatures from Aimia apparently.

SWEETNESS
So, those things on the inside cover of WoK. Crabwasps, or crabdragons?
(These guys, for clarification.)
BRANDON SANDERSON
They range between the size of a hand to perhaps the size of a small melon. You'll find out more about them eventually. Like most things from Aimia, they're pretty odd, and are also now very rare since the scouring

It seems that we have a lot of strange things coming from Aimia, as well as the WoB that they aren't human. Who made the Aimians, if anybody? They don't seem to have much of any of the big three in them, they cast shadows the same way people do in the Cognitive, but apparently they're farther in than Lift, which would mean the can probably touch spren. What other weird, Cosmere-related things do they have over there?

I agree they are probably Larkin given that interlude, that they are the same size as the WoB quoted above and it says in the Interlude they were thought extinct with the Scouring of Aimia....

it is interesting that the Stormlight sucking Larkin is chomping on a Bondsmith...

As a quick note, on the "void"binding chart, it sort of looks like whatever these creatures are has been replaced with a gemheart. If those are Larkin, then that might be a meaningful connection.

I noticed that same thing, @Thought.

There is << that thing >> in WoR that seems to indicate a sort of opposite-ness going on.

18 months between each of these books is feeling more like an eternity.
