“I haven’t tried them yet. If you’ll take the cores, I can investigate it now.” Rebus was still holding the cores - or, rather, hovering them above his hands, since touching either would cause them to do things. “Be careful with them - Chaotic Light is as volatile as you’d think, and both can sometimes activate if touched, which will use them up.”

I'm confused. What did taking his powers do?

Rebus constructed crystals - of legitimate crystal glass - and sent them floating upwards to the chandelier. They caught the light, sending points of it scattered across the floor like a million stars. And they began to spin to the music, making the lights glide around like they themselves were dancing.

Symbol grinned up at the candle chandelier, watching the crystals refract. "Beautiful. Now, since I only have six or seven pages, I'm going to go quickly create some balconies and gardens for the wanderers."

If Chaotic Light had its way, everything would be bursting with color and creation, activity and fun, with little regard to who got hurt. Many would call it a paradise, but many would also call it dangerous and ridiculous. 
If Ordered Light got its way, people would be safe and happy doing what they were supposed to. They would be nurtured and guided by light, helping crops grow and people from different worlds interact. Many would call it peaceful, but some would call it stagnation. 
If Ordered Dark got its way, nobody could do anything they were not supposed to. Any threat to anything would simply cease to exist. It would be safe, but it would also be controlling. 
If Chaotic Dark got its way, nothing would exist. I think most people can agree that would be bad. 
To speak to your newest post, I think you said something like that - that he was something like the Witherlord, who can control Mordite. 

your list of if the Essences got their way seems pretty accurate. Probably somewhat like causing/preventing, but that still doesn't feel quite right. I'm just nitpicking though

As for control, it'll still be kinda like that, but a little different. It makes more sense this way.

Rebus let them go, though the Ennuller core weakened magic close to it, making it hard to move. 
Rebus can use those few seconds of magic at a later time - he literally possesses the help that Muin could give. What does the power look like while emulsifying, actually?

While emulsifying, the power would allow you to create an unstable black smoke-like substance (that's smokite) that would allow for things to emulsify (things to be alloyed together). However, once you lose the power, you wouldn't have had enough skill to permanently graft them together, so only the smokite would be binding them. As soon as you would lose the power, it would un-emulsify. Also, the powers of transformation (the ones that allow you to have more magic) would require you to have been in direct contact with the magic itself (So like a core, or someone using their magic on you) however, as soon as the powers end, it would be reversed. Temporary shaping is mostly used for experiments, not long term use.

"I would be disappointed as well. I hardly know any of the other characters." She clasped her hands behind her back, stepping down off her disc and starting towards the grand doors in case he wanted to follow.
