She smiled sadly and stirred the noodles again.

-

"Hey- no, no, stop that, you're being manipulative-"

She sighed.

"Just hurry up."

He went to find something to drink.

-

"I am not being manipulative," Lady Bug snapped. "Just because you see something you don't like doesn't mean it's automatically an action that should be considered morally wrong. I'm telling the truth from an angle that benefits me. I'm not manipulating anyone--- you should know that, being a veteran of manipulation yourself."

When it was done, she strained the noodles and separated them into two bowls for each of them.

-

She scowled.

"It doesn't have to be morally wrong for it to still be manipulative!"

She sighed.

"Whatever. I'm sorry- just continue."

She went and plopped back down in her seat next to Bat.

“Well- no, but where I’m from almost no one’s normal.”

"Huh. Well, that could be true of many places, I guess."

He dumped a lot of sauce on his. "How much do you want?"

-

She folded her arms. "No. First, define 'manipulative'. A broad definition will do."

"Not that much."

She didn't need anything from Lady Bug. Lady Bug was the one who'd come here to talk to them.

She didn't say anything

He gave her a teensy dollop.

She tsked. "Can't even define the art you practice. That's too bad." She turned to Bat. "I know one way to get to him. My desires happen to align with your needs at the moment." She leaned forward, eyes intense. "But everything we say, he knows. I have no reason to hurt you. All I want is to use you in order to achieve what you wanted to do already."

Bat glanced at Tam, then hesitated.

“I mean, school taught that they were myths, so…”

He didn’t answer. That didn’t seem too comforting.

“Y-yeah, sure.”

He didn’t catch the implication.

Yep

He took it and stood up. He didn’t let go.

Holt smiled at him, and the chair chirped happily and flew to his shoulder.

"Let's go," Corysande said eventually, standing suddenly. She led them out of the rest area, closed it, and started back down the stairs again. It was warm, and as they descended, it grew hot.

She rolled her eyes and snatched the jar from him, pouring however much she wanted.

-

Tam looked absolutely pissed.

She just shrugged. Up to you.

“Where I’m from, most people have abilities called quirks that are individual to them alone. It’s really rare to not have one.”

Dangit.

It was a long, long way down. But then the stairs ended abruptly, and a stagnant coolness settled over them. The air was vaguely misty, as if they were standing in a cloud.

Holt put his hands on his knees, puffing.

"Please- tell me we won't- have to climb all- the way up again-" he huffed.

"Hey!" He protested. "Just an eye roll? I'm offended."

-

Bat looked up at Lady Bug. "I'm interested," he admitted. "What do you have in mind?"

"I have a bone to pick with the only person he seems to care about." She shrugged. "I don't claim to know his mind. Perhaps it's all an act to fuel a continued existence, since she's willing to consistently interact with him. But so far, it's all you've got." She smirked. "She won't put up much of a fight, as long as we don't kill her."

Bat looked confused. "You want to--- wait. You're gonna take Symbol hostage?"

"Well... something like that." She raised an eyebrow at Tam. "Are you coming, dear?"

The air grew even hotter. He heard a faint echo down the corridor, though which way was unclear.

"I'm certainly not leaving him alone with you."

"Oh, come on!"
