"Alright. I could create a scenario for you, if you wish."

"No . . . I just want . . . a place to start. Looking, if that makes sense."

"Alright."

He took them to a random city.

Thousands of people milled about, and huge, gleaming skyscrapers stretched into the sky.

One person gave Stone a weird look.

He looked around, stunned, before realizing just how out of place he probably looked, still in his combat gear.

He walked off in a random direction, hoping for the Authors to guide him to somebody.

Utility walked beside him.

"Is there a specific kind of situation you're looking to come across?"

"No. Just somebody to help me. I think . . . hopefully my Author will guide me to some sort of quest."

"That's entirely up to him, although my Author may also help, if she so chooses."

They passed all kinds of buildings and shops, full of many different kinds of people.

A man in a lab coat - Rebus, of course - caught his eye briefly, though he was talking to another passerby.

He chose one at random, striding inside.

He ignored him for the moment, his intuition warning him against that random pharmacist or whatever.

That works, also, Utility thought.

Rebus was almost annoyed, but Stone’s thoughts were funny enough to balance it out. “Thank you for your time,” he told the random passerby, and walked away.

Utility followed him into the Pharmacy.

It looked like a pretty standard Pharmacy.

:D

He looked around, choosing an aisle at random.

"I don't think I've ever been here. It's . . . nice," she said quietly.

He nodded.

She nodded. “That’s a little cheesy… but I agree.”

Jack looked up at her. “Who are you?” It is perhaps relevant to note that his face was made of metal. In fact, all his skin was made of metal of several types, with some gaps showing visible gears. He did look fairly human, and his confusion and mild panic was evident on his face.

@Through The Living Glass

Eleanor giggled. She looked fairly ordinary by herself—corn-colored hair tucked in a long braid. A long flowy nightgown. Oh, right, and a giant bloody wound on her middle.

Utility watched from nearby. He thought the gears were a bit excessive, but who was he to judge?

Eleanor noticed Utility but didn’t say anything.

The shelves were full of medicine. And a bomb. But mostly medicine.

"Hilarious."

Stone's eyes lazily glanced over the shelves, resting briefly on the bomb. He reached for it, hesitantly, hoping it wasn't triggered by touch.

Jack figured that wasn’t too much of a problem - some of his skin was missing, after all. More injuries to either of them would likely be problematic, but she looked fine at the moment. Having concluded there wasn’t a medical emergency, Jack shakily got to his feet, quiet sounds of gears and springs audible as he moved. “Do you often sneak up on innocent passerby’s?”

He held it delicately, and stuffed it into his bag, for future use.

. . . It was very clearly a live bomb.

He pulled it out, and hurled it through a portal he formed. He blinked. He could make portals? Well, that was useful.

lol

When he dropped the portal, there was a very surprised, very elderly lady staring at him with wide eyes.

Unsure what to do, she turned and walked away without a word.

She lit up, looking animated as she spoke. “Well… yeah! It’s fun to scare people! Or… robot people… But anyways! Weren’t you scared?”
