She grinned and rubbed his head gently, then looked up at Fly.

"What is it?"

-

". . . I'm sorry. That must be hard."

It was weird to be petting a chair.

The chair became a regular chair again.

"Hmm. Very well. Your Author is the person who dictates who you are- your personality, looks, skills, background; as well as your actions. They wrote you, as their name implies."

"Not scared, just cautious."

-

"Well, we can go find someone, then."

"Oh. Huh. That's . . . interesting." he said, curious, not disturbed.

“She reached out her talons for him. “No leaving,” she commanded.

Fly regarded her uncertainly. “I… what do you want with us?”

-

“Ah, it’s nothing. He did love me.”

Sovin (tree dude) asked Ice who she was

mmmm she'd never apologize to rose unless someone forced her to lol :P

Even if she was being blackmailed to turn Rose into a monster?

Rose's heart thudded. "Oh, wow," she whispered.

It's just a vision. It's just fake.

But... still.....

-

"That would be nice... the only problem would be I don't want to see what she's doing, and, by extension, don't want you to."

Tam snarled. It’s NOT fake! You’ve been out of the vision for weeks! The birds began to peel off the pages, becoming three-dimensional.

“Ah. In that case, shall we continue our tour?”

. . . yes 🫥

Shoe and Tam both smiled.

"Why don't you show him your toy horse, Snow?"

"That's usually the initial reaction."

"Oh . . . then why am I not a Narrator?"

"Because your Author did not make you a Narrator. You're an- well, you're sort of the opposite, actually."

"I . . . am? So, why did your Author make me, if I'm not a Narrator? Not useful."

"Ouch." he winced, slightly. "Alright, then. Can I talk to these Authors?"

"Directly? Only if they also wish to talk. In any case, they can all see your words and actions."

He gulped. He didn't want to directly approach his own Author. "How about yours?" he said suddenly. "I wanna talk to them."

"It's . . . not common for Authors to talk to characters, but it does happen. More recently, especially. What would you like to talk to her about? I'm sure I am a suitable mouthpiece."

"Yeah. I have some questions that need answering."

He smiled again and nodded, bending down to Snow.

"My name is Tam, actually," she whispered. "And yeah, he is."

"Almost there," he soothed.

-

He raised an eyebrow.

"But you won't be able to scare me. I can't physically feel scared."

"Right, right..."

-

"How come?"

"You would need to talk to your Author, for that. Though I suspect he was just bored."

"That's it? That's what I boil down to? Boredom?"

He spat. "Alright. Why am I so bad? What did I do? Why does Tam hate me?"

"It's fine. Relax."

-

"I don't feel emotion."

"That's what you keep saying," she said. "You promise you won't drop me?"

She clung to him even tighter.

-

"What? Why not?"

"You actively pursued your brother, Bat, and Tam in order to kill them until Tam killed you. You shot Bat, stabbed Cricket's eye out, poisoned him, and then after all was done, he unceremoniously dumped your decapitated corpse off a cliff. Is that a sufficient answer?"

He wrapped her up tighter.

"I promise."

They were only a few yards from the ground, now.

-

"It's not how I was designed."
