Bat hugged tight. He liked Cricket.

Bat frowned. “Rigged,” he decided.

"Hey, Bat. No, I failed the trial fair and square."

She paused, then looked down at the sand.

I know! I'm sorry, okay? I've just- I've started reading posts again . . . not all the time, but when we need it . . .

She shrugged.

It's only temporary . . .

She hadn't meant for him to be freaked out or anything . . .

@NameIess

Cricket's gonna pop out

lets pretend Dreamsmith convo is over then

Cricket appeared on the beach, near Bat and Tam. "Hey." he smiled wanly.

Bruh. He passed the trial. That's why the Dreamsmith convo was happening. Also I think you may have missed my last post.

“I thought you were justifying your actions by telling yourself it was right, that you were the hero. Now I see you’re merely fickle and crazy. I merely thought you’d be more cohesive.”

"Justifying my actions?" Nameless laughed. "Oh, that would be silly. I don't need to be in the narrative role of the hero in order to fix the Thread. Why would I bother with morality?"

3 hours ago, Dragonheir said:

“You are correct - he showed it to me when I did my trial.”

"So... do we have to go to him to get it?"

3 hours ago, Dragonheir said:

Rebel determined that he probably couldn’t lie to this voice. “Rebus - the Narrator who created me. I’m a depowered clone of him, but he wants to kill me. I suspect he won’t be able to come here - or at least won’t risk it.”

"I see." A wave of power washed over Rebel, and he stood in the throne room among the ex-hunters. The king stared at him, crystal crown glowing with power. "I know your plan for this city. I will not be tempted by your Plotblade."

Dreamsmith can't appear to Cricket. He's in the afterlife. That's why Omen has to be involved. And Omen would certainly be too indignant at Cricket leaving early to drag him back to the Dreamsmith. Although the Dreamsmith might be able to convince him to do so.

Can't do that either. Interacting with the real world in any way risks him getting dragged deep into the World of Dreams, which would prevent him from doing the Dreamsmith thing at all.

If you want, my dedicated helpful exposition Elliot the drummer can show up and tell Cricket to go back if that would be helpful 😅

@Clinically insane

Chull looked around. He could almost feel his memory slipping away.

“Do I… forget a lot?”

I hope so. He eyed Cricket. He seems inert right now…

A teensy, eager, childish voice said KISS HER WHILE HE’S NOT HERE.

Or maybe that was just him.
