“No, she didn’t. Aren’t you a warrior or hero or something?”

yep! I want to creep a bit closer, then jump out and scare the roc off with fire.

Cadewyn waited about 15 feet away from the roc, only bare rock between them.

NEW PLOT!

He fell down a hole, falling farther than was safe. The walls of the tunnel crumbled away, turning to dirt and then to nothingness, a dark fog that caused a slight tingling on his skin.

He slowed before slamming into the ground, unharmed. A roar sounded from behind him.

Pyk nodded, contemplating. “I think… I think I have a way to slightly reverse the effect of her cancellation - I’ll still be useless at an offense, but at least I won’t just be at her mercy.”

He grimaced, then consulted his AI, then nodded. “Okay. It should be enacted.”

He put on his armor, then looked to Asher. “I’m ready.”

Behind him, above the hole, or behind on the ground?

He looked around, pulling out his sword again, and looking back up the hole. "Well, mysterious being, where to now?"

She stood up too.

Twelve led them to another room with a dark-haired woman.

AWWWWWWWWWW :P

She waited impatiently for them outside.

Tam made no comment.

. . . Great . . . thanks.

 I’m stealing that now. My tricks include “time to get a watch” (I use this to stall while I check my own watch) and “Hi tired, I’m [Heir]” (for getting people to stop complaining about things I can’t fix, as well as “you just did” on the rare occasion someone says “can I ask you a question?”
Rebus’s lips turned up. “Regardless, I’m off to go find an army. I wish you good luck in either eliminating my competition or forsaking the one object that could possibly defeat me. I would offer you a boon, actually, but you’re a Narrator - anything you couldn’t make yourself I don’t think you would want.”

“Why not?” He demanded.

-

“Shut up,” she snapped, and promptly chose the Cricket mirror.

-

“How could you?” Lady Bug laughed. “You don’t understand her like I do. I created her. She’s nothing, Rebus. A black hole. She’ll suck you up if you let her.”

”Not anymore.” Symbol picked the monocle out of the air, running her finger along the edge. “You created me to change, to discover. That is my purpose. In your absence, I have done so.” She frowned slightly. “Or… I must have, in some way. The drive is fading.”

”Spoutspeaker,” Lady Bug scoffed.

“It’s not like you’d know any better. We may have similar descent, similar mannerisms—“

Lady Bug started forward, making Symbol twitch, but stopped herself. ”You’re an EMPTY SHELL! You don’t have my mannerisms! I left you alone and you turned into a MONSTER.”

”No, actually.” Her jaw clenched, though she maintained some composure. “You left me with a drive to become and a terrible answer. A flawed answer that caused me to develop into a monster.”

Lady Bug opened and closed her mouth. “No,” she said finally. “Whatever happened to you wasn’t my fault.”

“Because the text is how I experience the world. Not reading your thoughts is like you not looking at things shaped like pineapples. By the time you’ve figured out something is shaped like a pineapples, you’ve already looked at it. There is a way to hide thought from all, or from all but Authors. I can teach it to you, and I promise there will be no strings attached.”
She briefly felt entirely devoted to the happiness of herself and Cricket as the reflection reached out and took her hand. Then nothing changed, except it had; she was now in a slightly larger enclosure of eight mirrors, with the reflection of her, now a physical figure composed of colorful glass, standing beside her.
Rebus’s Plotblade would have begun glowing, had it been present. “Symbol is right. In the end, she rejected the Corruption and effectively died - she did grow truly evil for a time, but she understood at the end.” He smiled, legitimately proud of the decision. “Honestly, at that moment, she was a hero. And even if you are right, for the sake of the argument, it is still. Your. Fault. You made a being. If you are correct, you made that being empty. And then you left this being - who you created to be an all-devouring void - alone, and decided it wasn’t your fault when someone you abandoned grew warped without your guidance. Symbol is almost your child. You had a duty to provide guidance even as you allowed development - you cannot blame your failures on the one who managed to turn back to good without your help.”

If I ever complain, know it's just for the sake of complaining :P

...see, I have character flaws 😅s

He hesitated. "...okay."

-

She eyed the reflection distrustfully, then examined the mirrors.

-

Symbol's cheeks turned red with shame and embarrassment, and she turned away.

Lady Bug scowled. "She was an experiment, nothing more. I don't understand how she became... this."

Symbol turned back, interest renewed. "Became what?"

"Independent. Humanlike. Annoying."

Symbol blushed again, but the hint of a smile could be seen on her lips before she turned away again.
