She started to say something back, but bit her tongue and hid it with a sigh.

Wonderful.

"Great! Thanks," she said somewhat-cheerfully.

She nodded. "A-alright."

“Don’t thank me,” she grumbled, the stood.

She returned in a mere half hour.

4 hours ago, Dabi said:

"Okay, let's do this then."

"Kid enough. Now here," he spat, handing him his money

He smiled warmly

Twelve smiled back, as much as he could.

"Good. You stay here with the Griffin." he looked down at the GPS device, "Maddie, what's the griffon's name anyway?"

“Bead.”

Eepy didn’t want to let go, though…

“Good - that means I’m doing my job sufficiently.”
*shug* I say that kind of thing in real life too.

“I don’t think the action will change you, though the choice might. I made my choice - I’m much happier because of it.”

Mirrors are lashing out, hiding away, becoming like her parents, and running away with Cricket.
“The Machination can be hired by essentially anyone, though the more complicated the job the more valuable the payment must be. They’re mercenaries, technologically and magically augmented by the organization. They used to be tightly managed, but leadership has gone downhill and there’s approximately three different groups of people calling themselves the Machination.”
Rebus waited for Lady Bug to stop being a statue and begin yelling at him.

“I have not explored my capabilities. It is my impression that Ennulling can undo and revert, bringing this site back to its previous state.”
Um, is that a thing Ennullers can do? Anyway, I think the orb shouldn’t be able to Ennull externally without difficulty, since it’s so strong otherwise.

“What did you choose, then?”

-

Bat frowned. “Weird.”

-

The statue’s eyes began to glow, and the stone began to shimmer with color, dissolving slowly and beginning to reveal Lady Bug underneath.

“How dare you,” Lady Bug began. Her voice was more impressive than one might expect, especially had they interacted with her before. “I hope you realize what you’ve done.”

“Of course I do,” Symbol replied. Her monocle vanished. “I’ve made an enemy.”

Lady Bug’s fists clenched. “Quite a dumb thing to do.” She sprang forward, a sword appearing in her hand as she lounged at Symbol. Her sword never reached its mark, nor did the intended target flinch. Lady Bug was frozen in stone once more, though this rendering was detailed enough to show her rage-twisted face and splayed hair.

“I wouldn’t be so bold if I were you,” Symbol told her, bopping her playfully on the nose. “Your existence isn’t yet concrete. Perhaps I’m merely controlling a stone statue. Perhaps I’ve enchanted it to act like you. The possibilities are limitless, and I’m determined to make you earn the right to exist.”

Pyk stared at Cade warily, but took his hand off the sheath of his sword, and brought it out stiffly, offering a handshake.

No Heir whyyyyyyy 😂

“I’m right every time. I haven’t had to kill anyone yet, and if we both continue on our paths, that will be true for quite a while.” Rebus smiled.
I think that’s a rhetorical question, but I’ll answer it just in case: typically I’ll either say such a thing because the alternative interpretation came to mind and was particularly funny, or if I run out of useful things to say but it still seems like I should respond (for instance, if someone asks me “why” over and over, I’ll eventually give up and start telling them “y is a letter preceded by x and followed by z.”).

The reflection smiled. “Cricket. I took his offer and left so I could get away from the pressure.”

Rebus watched Lady Bug attack, unperturbed. “She’s railing against your control, which though not an ideal situation makes her predictable.”

Rebus raised an eyebrow. “I am not attempting to be a villain, though if necessary I can and will. I need to become an antagonist, which does not require forgoing my conscience, merely prioritizing other things.”

“Then you can choose my mirror.” The other reflections were trying to get her attention.
Rebus nodded in agreement, then waited for the Author.

They walked down cozy wooden hallways until they reached a door.

“There aren’t any windows,” he said, pushing it open. “Sorry about that.”

The room they looked into was spacious, with couches and chairs and several coffee tables. A kitchen adjoined it, and two hallways ran off to the sides.

She turned to look at the others.

Symbol resummoned her monocle, which flashed wirh light. The statue slowly returned to its previous position, then glimmered back into Lady Bug. She no longer looked furious, but definitely angry.

“Why are you even doing this? Out of the goodness of your heart?” She spat.

Symbol shrugged. “You did create me. Would that be so hard to believe?”

”Hah! We both know there is no goodness in you. As you said, I created you.”

“People change,” was all Symbol said to that.

Lady Bug narrowed her eyes at her. “No. It’s not that. I can feel it, you know. It’s there. Why can’t I see it?”

”You’ve been so paranoid latel—“

”Shut up. I’m trying to think.”
