Yeah - Rebus knows he needs the Authors to care about him in order to survive, and thus will comply with many of their demands. As for my other characters, if you ever do have feedback to give me I'm open to it.

She had been introduced in a subplot that quickly died out. As for Parasite, some dummy with a computer can't even remember who that is.....

"Oh? Would you like to hint at them again, vocally?" Symbol stepped up into the pavilion and walked to the round raised pillar in the middle. Several glass spheres were submerged in the smooth top of the stone, smooth and colorful. Each was a different size, and they looked as if they'd roll in their sockets if touched.

"Good. I'm the last one." Rose was surrounded by a square of mirrors at this point. "You'll have to pick one of us in order to keep going - I'm you if you stopped caring what others thought, and did what you wanted." 

Parasite is the third Notblade, which mind-controls people directly. It was donated by the Scribe for the defense system. I probably skimmed right past the subplot, or I would probably have joined it. 

Rebus smiled. "Let's see... There were all the hints about Magnificent Bastard, some of which are still relevant. And then of course the 'I'm evil and have been manipulating you all' thing, which warranted less reaction than I expected. Perhaps I should give the Machination some of my devices in exchange for setting up some more plans for me - though they'll probably trip the security measures trying to mess with them, which is bad for your health." Rebus assumed the glass formed a puzzle, but wanted to finish the conversation before he messed anything up.

Tam picked another, reverting every person she saw.

It is no longer canon that an idiot with a computer forgot about Parasite. The idiot happened to remember this tidbit and of course always took it into account, of course. The Notblade is now safely in the hands of Symbol, as it has, of course, been for many pages. Of course. 

Symbol rolled several of the smaller spheres, and the ground around her opened, splitting into two half-circles and neatly disappearing into the floor, besides a small circle where she stood with the pillar. Steps led downward. She considered them for a moment. 

"I suppose I could just bring her out here. I feel I've had rather enough of stuffy caves for the time being--- what say you?" 

She grinned. "And if you really expected the Authors to be shocked by a manipulative character, you haven't seen their home lives. Or, in the case of mine, the inside of their brains."

She wasn't so much walking as just leaning on him as much as she could.

"Go . . . find Five," she muttered.

He managed to hit all but one of them, which ducked into a side room.

"P-please stop . . . I-I don't know how you're managing to get rid of me but please . . . I never meant any harm to anyone."

She collapsed with him, crying out in pain when she hit the pavement again.

She carefully grabbed Five's hand, using her ability to jolt her awake and give her mind clarity.

Then she did the same to Starlight and Aden . . . well, she hoped it would work on Aden.

Starlight was still unconsious, and bleeding from the head, among other places. Some of the plating in his arm and head was exposed, and some wiring was extruding from his leg

I’ve been reading this on and off for a week desperately trying to understand what’s going on so I can join but it’s just not working

Five woke with a scream of pain that made Aden jump and impale himself on a shard of metal. He bit his lip very hard. 

Five started panicking. The pain was so familiar, and there was so much blood in her eyes she couldn’t see and it stung and HAD THEY GOTTEN HER BACK? SHE HAD TO GET OUT SHE HAD TO GET OUT!!
