What'd you do while I was gone?

Something clinked loudly behind him.

He frowned. What had he done?

“Dunno. Just stuck around.” He glanced at the sound.

Alright. We should probably look . . . well, what do you want to do?

The thing started clinking again, louder and more rapidly this time.

"Yeah- all the Dryads and Drus can do this. We just need a seed, so when you grew the other tree . . ."

Her eyes widened. “They’re… beautiful.”

The scientist stared at him. “You’re a Narrator. Of course you are.” She chuckled nervously.

Rebus sighed. “Unfortunately I am. I’ve been looking for ways to make the power go away; releasing it to bring the creation - without the chaos and change in mentality - to everyone. To build a paradise where everyone can have anything they want at their fingertips, instead of a place where people live in fear of those granted far more power than any should have.”

1 hour ago, Through The Living Glass said:

Utility smiled at the scientist, then turned back to Rebus.

"Leave these people to me. I've made my own choice. They've lived here idly for too long. I'm sure you have better things to be doing, anyway."

@Dragonheir

Rebus raised an eyebrow, suddenly surrounded in so much utility fog it made the air blurry. It began cutting through bonds and removing venom from the captives. “I can’t leave them here to suffer. You are a disgrace to your abilities, a monster who is only here to terrorize the innocent. I stand against you - for myself, and for them.”

That's because he couldn't see whatever it was.

. . . Uh, okay. I don't think there's anything there to see.

“Nice of you to tell me so,” he said to the Author. “Yeah,” he told Tam. “Nothing to see. Just rattling or clanking or whatever. Probably nothing important, except it clearly is, because she pointed it out for us. Or maybe just for me. You can’t hear it, can you?”

The scientist slowly stood once unparalyzed.

This could be a very good thing.

I’ll respond to that and Utility at the same time. Unrelatedly, Rose is still in a vision.
As Rose walked, her footsteps continued echoing loudly. They were out of sync with her steps, around three audible steps for every two she took.

1 hour ago, Through The Living Glass said:

Utility stuck her to the stone.

“Because they’re people. Because they fear us, and I want to show them not every Narrator is evil. Because no matter what I did, I couldn’t not notice your actions. Because they may hold the secret to fix me, and the world. Because you’re a challenge. Because nobody else cares enough to stop you. Because I was here.” By the way, have you developed any self preservation yet? I can spare your mind, if you wish.
The stone became power armor around her - its strength could easily break her and it from the ground.

“I don’t think I could ever go back. To how it was, I mean. Being tested, getting thrown in a hole, unable to see. It wasn’t that long ago but it feels like a lifetime ago”

I don't particularly care.

Utility's eyes narrowed, and he prepared himself to fight.

Very well.
Rebus sent several spears of utility fog towards him, lighting them up in orange to give Utility a chance to dodge and the spectators knowledge of them.

Good question. Up until now, he’s done a wonderful job of being a character.

“Thanks,” Bat spat. “Really appreciate that.”

Cool

Just lemme know when you want Utility to come in, if there's a certain time

@TwinStorm what's Mist finding?

ALSO YOU CHANGED YOUR NAME BACK WHEEEEE :D:D

Mist found solitary figures, shrouded in gray, working the fields.

17 hours ago, Halcyon The Only said:

"Hm? Oh, those mean I'm dizzy..." He shook his head and some of the birds popped.

HAH

She tilted her head, tapping the book idly. "It's okay. You can tell me."

"I'll take my chances, thanks," she said dryly, then poofed into a cloud of crystalline flakes.

She reappeared. "Do you really expect them to?" She scoffed. "You can either have a Thread that bends to the needs of the new generation, or you can have a dead Thread passed up by TLPW, whatever that is."

"No, the primary purpose of a Narrator is to entertain the Author behind them." She shrugged. "Ask any of the Authors around the Thread today, and refer to my earlier comment."

Rose walked through the cavern, hearing the tak of her footsteps coming back to her from the walls.

The scientist didn't care all that much.

She'd given herself up for dead.

A slight fragment of something noble fluttered in her mind, but she shoved it away before it could be made public.

"Oh." Season paused. "Really?"

6 hours ago, NameIess said:

"Oh?" Balitan looked up. "What is it?"

The captain snorted. "The power of our king is far greater than any technology you could give us."

Moni came to a stop, reaching into her map. "I think we're far enough away that they won't be able to track us. Let's figure out where we are."

Subversion suppressed a grin. "I suppose that's a fail." She turned to the teacher. "Should I continue, or let someone else have a turn?"

The king turned his gaze onto Lane, leaving Simon to slump to the ground. "Malevolence? Who is this Malevolence, and what does he want with my kingdom?"

Even as he voiced his confusion, Cricket felt the answers entering into his mind. Phantom memories filled his mind. Malevolence had taken over a kingdom with the aid of his rabbits, claiming an artifact of great power and using it to establish domination over a wide area of the Thread. Several groups had attempted to defeat him, and all who did so failed. Cricket had been part of one such attempt, leading a rebellion against Malevolence, but Malevolence had caught him and his followers in a trap, killing some, capturing others, and scattering the rest. Shortly after, Malevolence had issued an ultimatum. Every day that went by without Cricket turning himself in, he would execute one hundred innocent people.

Malevolence laughed at Cricket. "You're right. I don't want to fight you. Accept your death or accept the deaths of these poor innocent people." He snapped his fingers, and a dozen combat drones popped up, taking aim at the gathered prisoners. "Well?"

"Narrators entertain their Authors by telling stories. They shouldn't act like normal characters. At least not all the time. It demeans them."

Malevolence nodded. "If you answer my questions, I'll tell you whatever you want to know about me and my plans."

The landscape was drastically different, rocky and red. They appeared to be in a massive valley. "This near Surtur's fortress." Perseus said, fear tinging his voice.

-

"He killed our master, and set us upon you. I know nothing else, I swear!"

-

"Only one man's dying today." Cricket breathed. "You." he said, even as he summoned Savior Complex and lunged at Malevolence.
