Nameless remained gone, although a paper did fall slowly to the ground where he had been standing.

If Rebus bothered to read it, the paper showed a list of ways Nameless could have vanished without Rebus deactivating the teleportation field.

  Reveal hidden contents

1: Using the Narration Rebus had given him to impersonate Rebus and hack the system.

2: Turning invisible and exiting at his leisure.

3: Using superspeed to exit faster than Rebus could percieve

4: Using Narration skills unknown to Rebus to teleport himself out in a way that bypassed the anti-teleport field

5: Instead of moving himself, simply turning incorporeal and moving the entire substance of the Thread in such a  way that he phased to his intended destination

6: Stepping into the fourth dimension

7: Time travel

8: Some kind of combination of the above.

Omen gestured to Rose. "You'll be giving her a trial today. Do you need a description of her character?"

"Think it has something to do with those artifacts the boss wants?" Jacob slowly moved along the rooftops, stepping carefully to avoid making any noise. "Headed your way now."

Omen nodded, an ominous look in his eyes. "Very well. Whenever the two of you are ready, we can begin."

"What, the protagonist shouldn't be the one to save the Thread from itself?" Nameless grinned. "I suppose Antagonist could work, but antagonists have an unfortunate tendency to lose, so... yeah."

"Worry not. Meat the Minstrel is a highly qualified trial-giver under select circumstances. His trial run went exceedingly well, and I hear the brave adventurer has recovered exceedingly well from his temporary bout of insanity."

Symbol shrugged. “My Plotblade would probably be a better match for you, if you’re willing to give up a completely central role.”

Rose was relieved when she didn’t turn into a pineapple.

“You’re a lunatic.”

“That would make sense, but I live here.” If Rose looked up, she would see several moons, one of which was melting.

Rebus notes that the first three should have been impossible, given that the only place the teleportation could be turned off by Rebus was from his moon, and that unless Nameless felt like somehow calling an elevator and exiting to space, he would still be stuck in the lab even if he was invisible. The fourth was, by its very nature, impossible to counter, but Rebus idly got to work preventing the remaining options.
Meat thought for a moment, sitting upside-down in the air. “I should, but probably don’t.”
Rebus smiled knowingly.

If I’d been drinking water while I read that, I would have spit it out laughing.

Indeed it did.

It made an assortment of chittering/screeching noises and sped towards them.

Yeah. I'm sorry. I'll try not to do that from now on.

Rebus, faking alarm, grabbed a force gun and pointed at the spider monster. He was holding it backwards, though, so he couldn’t even hit the trigger.

Indeed, the spider-creature made for the power plant immediately.

-

Maybe . . . but I still shouldn't have ignored you like that.

"Alright."

There was a shift in the air around her.

"Let's go, then."

He shrugged.

"I can't help but wonder if there's something else I could have done for them."

Heheh.

The voice chose to ignore her, for now.

"There's something you should know," she said, walking. "Sometimes... weird things happen on missions like this. I... don't know what you are, but I don't want you to get hurt because of me."

Haly hugged him back.

“I won’t, chill.”

She scooped him up like a baby and sprang into the air.

-

She was somewhat pleased to be recognized.

Bat smiled. “I… I appreciate that.”

She frowned. “That hardly seems a fitting Plotblade for such a task.”

Rose stared at Meat.

"Ack!" Jay squeaked.

-

Enrik narrowed his eyes.

Thanks.

That made it angrier, and it charged directly for her.

Well I kinda want to go and check to see if everyone back in town is okay . . . if that's alright.

It didn't really do much, and the spider lunged for her.

They arrived at the station. "You ready?" She asked, not sure what she was looking around for. She pushed the door open. It looked surprisingly... normal. Not like an abandoned police station should look, anyhow.

Well, the important bit is that she's clearly afraid of Narrators, and given that you exemplify some of the most terrifying aspects of Narrators, I surmised that you would be an excellent choice for her trial-giver.
