He ground his teeth and scurried into a building. Bob picked a different one. 

“No! No, wait.” She let go of Starlight and held a hand toward her mother. “It’s me! See? We’re— we escaped. From some government experiment— a really bad one. And I’ll tell you everything.” 

She looked so hopeful. Excited, even. 

"I didn't go alone, silly," she said, giggling. "Only fools do that."

Rebus smiled at the chaos that was unfolding in the caverns, then remembered he was supposed to be rescuing them. 
 @Halcyon The Only, Rebus looked to the scientist-person. “Is there stairs or an overhang? We need to get to the main power generation, and find as many people as we can along the way! I can evacuate them to the space station, where we’ll have combat drones and power armor we can slap some Nullite paint on.”

They stared at him, quaking.

"Okay. Thanks." he said, finally. "Well.. should we find Tam and Bat, now? I could use some healing." he said, lifting his bloody fists.

They eventually came out with the people. Terry looked angry. The people looked terrified. The children were crying, and their mothers were frantically trying to shush them while in hysterics themselves.

"Not... not really. Your father and I were completely fine with our lives before you came along, and giving you away let us go back to that. We also were able to let them do a study that let them do Superhuman testing. So win win for everyone. we just wanted you to be better. To be special"

And then he left. The people's feet and legs became stuck to the stone, and wouldn't come away.

He gestured for Terry and Bob to follow him, then went to the lower levels and ordered them to do the same as they'd done before.
