He led her down the hallway to a door at the end of the hall. He reached up above the doorframe for the key, unlocked the door, and stepped inside.

The room was dark. Any light filtering from outside was tainted blue frim his curtains, but when he flicked on the light, it felt much warmer, like a tidy little cave. 

Somebody had made the bed very nicely. The desk had a stack of books on it, but they’d been carefully straightened. The clear carpeted floor contrasted with the clutter of the rest of the house. 

“You gonna be okay alone in here?”
