The Plotblade grew brighter, Rebus still smirking. “Do you know what this Blade makes me? It’s summed up quite well by a compilation of tropes you’ll likely never read. The wielder of this blade is brilliant, cunning, charismatic, and sometimes evil. The wielder, and me always, is a Magnificent Bastard. It means I have a plan, and that it will work. It means I’ve already won, not just here but everywhere, and you simply haven’t noticed yet. It means I’m so spectacular, so charismatic, so legitimately kind when it suits me, that you don’t hate me even if I am evil. It means manipulating a walking apocalypse into giving me the power to manipulate another apocalypse into giving up its own goal to try to kill me. It means you should turn Ruia back, right now.”

“No,” she whispered, holding her hand weakly out in front of her. “No, don’t… I need it…”

KILL HIM!

She rubbed her temple with her other hand, whimpering.

Thanks. I guess it doesn’t feel nearly as good when you’re the one the trap springs on. Don’t worry, though, there are enough traps to go around. 
“There are four places it can go. Nowhere, a new body it creates, Malevolence, and myself. Turning it back or letting her die might both cause that transfer. Ruia, can you sever the ties?”

Rebus crossed to where Ruia had been, looking for the two Blades he knew to be there. 

Mentor and Beginnings were both there. Beginnings was large and silvery, and as far as I remember, Mentor is rather like a cane. Except I dont think it was, but as of now it’s always been a cane that can also be a blade but prefers to be a cane.

“Yes?” She snapped, still quite shaken. She couldn’t feel anybody, or anything. It… was unsettling. Scary, despite the consequences.
