“So you’re babysitting me,” he snapped. “I don’t need to be babysat. You think either of our Authors would let me do anything anyway?”

hmm maybe I HAVE been a lil heavy handed lately…

Sorry Bat

*cough*

-

She smiled, though the thought of the needle made her shiver. “Thanks for making me sleep first.”

She looked up at him sadly.

Well, if you want to see it like that, then I guess I'm babysitting you.

-

She nodded. "Or course. How do you feel?"

She tilted her head, interested.

I suppose not. Prismite is rather hard to get unless you can kill a Narrator.

"Balancium? Nameless?" Balitan's eyes widened.

I hate that word. The man in the forcefield waved at Balitan with a mostly solid hand. I didn't make a true new alloy. Just a converter. Balitan gasped, hand going to his head. You could be right. We'll need subjects to test your theory, of course. Nameless continued.

Malevolence stepped forward coolly. With a casual air that belied the speed at which the evil genius moved, he swung his Mordite blade through the utility fog and towards Rebus's head, aided by the dissolving powers he'd received from Ruia. "True evil always comes as a surprise."

"It is a bit silly, yes. Isoium would be better, through less self-explanatory." Rebus deactivated the force field, relatively confident Nameless could be trusted. "Test subjects shouldn't be too hard to find - the Machination would probably pay me to experiment on their members."

Rebus's Plotblade coalesced in his hand, timed so perfectly it almost appeared inside the Mordite blade as he blocked it. "Should it? It should come inevitably, known to all but still not prepared for. You were far more impressive when they trusted you despite not trusting you than right now, when you only pose an actual threat to me because my nanotech is apparently alive." Rebus swept his Blade at Malevolence, beginning two-handed then suddenly letting go and lunging.

Essentially, yeah.

"Well, that's a shame." he said. "RELEASE ME!" he screamed. "FIGHT ME!"

Then surely you have tales of my feats? I am Achilles, slayer of Hector."

"I'm fine," she said quickly, reaching up to quickly wipe her eyes. "Thanks."

"I... I appreciate you talking to me."

She smiled at him. "Thank you. I... I think you're nice."

"Oh! Did--- did I make you shy again? Oh, gosh, I'm sorry!"

He looked at her, smiling sadly. "Thank you. I..." he looked like he wanted to say more, but settled for another smile.

I was thinking of more... exotic subjects. You mentioned withergeists earlier?

"Perhaps I do not want to appear impressive right now." Malevolence spun his blade around to knock aside Rebus's lunge, then stepped inside his guard for a pommel strike to the Narrator's face. "Perhaps I am merely biding my time with these unimportant matters until I can carry out my own plans."

if not I can make Aden hack it so no pressure

“Good.” She beamed.

Rebus shrugs at Balitan. "He knows things, and is pretty much powerless currently." He then sits down and steeples his fingers, thinking. "I suppose we could probably find a withergeist - it'd also give us some Morditite to scan. We also can track down the Convenient Person or one of the Machination quasi-Ennullers."

Rebus took the hit, and his nose began to leak smoke, evidently broken by the Morditite. He dismissed his blade and grabbed Malevolence's arm, grip strength enhanced by nanites. "You're failing, by which I mean your swordplay is impressive. We are alike, in many ways."

He closed his eyes, feeling anger bubble up to his throat. He took a deep breath and forced it back down.

“Can I have some wine or something?”

He’d never drunk before, but these stupid emotions weren't doing anything for him. He was snapping at Tam, for goodness’ sake.

Ria came back.

“Come with me,” she told Five, who got up to follow her. “We have to fet a scan.”

Once she was in the machine in the other room, Ria turned to Irie. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“I’ve never even SEEN half these toxins,” she said. “The sheer amount of fear and pain amplifying toxins… and there’s a mellower in there somewhere. Plus a slow acting poison. I’d guess they have her the antidote every day, but I’m going to have to reverse engineer it before she dies.”

“But there’s still so MUCH… none of it’s gone away yet. Like it hasn’t been eight hours since they had her.”
