Cricket staggered forward, destroying her sword. He needed to get to her. He needed to... he staggered over to where she lay, standing over her and facing the monster. "No." he said softly. "Get away from her." And he began to glow with darkness.

The man finally managed to regain his sword, blessing the luck that had kept Cricket's beam of darkness from hitting him. With effort, he pulled the blade free from the monster's head, then stood, stabbing the sword down into the beast's skull with all of his might.

Its skull was quite thick, but it did hurt a lot.

The beast shook its head and tried to figure out what had hurt it.
