Why don't I just . . . heal your eye? she said somewhat laboriously.

She did so.

The eye itself won’ t come back, cause of… reasons

That eye is gone. Maybe I could get a replacement.

Then, realizing she was asleep, he closed his eyes, lying down again.

He had been useless. Stone had been toying with him. He felt sick. He had done nothing against Stone, failing to protect Tam from him, leaving her at his mercy, though she had managed to win.

Well, I hope you don't imagine such a threat will go un-investigated.  Plans are already being made to find and eliminate this mysterious entity of yours.

"I don't know." Nogard seemed thoughtful. "I think anyone could be a villain to someone, if they weren't careful."

"So you want authority?" whispered the wind. "A piece of each of us, to tie us into your plots?"

"You have to tell them," said 656, clutching Subversion's wrist and staring intently at her. Her earlier reticence seemed to have vanished completely. "You have to tell them I'm not crazy. Something took my brother. Erased him."

"As well as can be expected for someone who's been filling out paperwork for two hours." Nogard laughed ruefully. "You're lucky they didn't call you as a witness."

The doctor sputtered furiously as Cricket vanished.

An Ennuller appeared from the Void, staring down at Cricket with his arms folded.

Cricket was already gone for the response and did not hear it.

Cricket looked up from where he had lying. “Hey.” he said, grinning weakly, raising a hand before collapsing again“Just… give me a sec. I’ll be back soon.”

"Great! Do I still have to make the sandwiches?" she asked, but she didn't slow down her pace as she smashed her two pieces of bread together.

Yes, Lady Bug’s mind whispered to hers. Make your sandwiches. Sane men squish bread together, while madmen unravel the bare thread of the universe. How useless it all turned out to be!

"Thanks?" Celena wasn't really paying attention to Lady Bug. "You're very strange."

"What kind of trauma, though? Embarrassment? Abuse? If you go berserk and try to kill me, I need to know."

"Oh, y'know. My brother tried to kill me, but he failed and now he's trapped in a locket. And I'm not going to kill you," she said, adding pickles and honey to her sandwich. "I'm not broken like that."

She threw back her head and laughed until she coughed.

“Mmm. Yeah that always helps.”

Rebus grins. “Did you hear that the stolen Plotblades seemingly have not been returned?”
