Bacon sent Faunus a letter. Did you draw this, canonically? Tomato wants to meet the illustrator.

Faunus sent a letter back, No, unfortunately I have never seen this in my life. Must be from someone else.

[Yes, though it can be slightly finicky.  Unlike the wonderful creation I am, it has absolutely no autonomy, and so cannot make exceptions. It can be difficult to manage, and is very expensive. That’s why your suits are equipped with jets instead… they are easier to make.]

[Pride is something I can and often do feel! The other AI’s tell me I shouldn’t, but,] the AI somehow signals a shrug, [it doesn’t change that I feel it!]

Livetha curled up on Beosta’s stomach and fell asleep.

Shoe wasn't sure what to think about all this, as he thought about what Beosta and Livetha had recounted about the past night.

He was still embarrassed by the fact that he had not only kissed Beosta, but that he'd told her that he loved her as well.

He sighed and put his face in his hands, resolving to never going to get drunk again, no matter what Beosta threatened him with.

It made him wonder though. He looked over at Beosta, sleeping peacefully on the beach.

Did he love her?

. . .

. . . He wasn't sure, actually.

He'd never really given it much thought before. He hadn't realized it until now, but ever since Bacon and the others had started talking about them being together, he had become determined to not be interested in her, however unconscious the decision had been.

But now . . . he realized now that maybe . . . maybe he did love her.

She really was a wonderful person, and -save for the fact that she'd gotten him drunk- she'd been a good friend. A great one, even.

I made him wonder though- Livetha said she'd been happy when he'd said that- did that mean Beosta felt the same way?

He stared at the ocean for a long while.

Awwww baby shoeeeee 🥰

Beosta wasn’t really happy to wake up, besides the pretty sunrise. Every single day felt like a new, fresh canvas waiting for new, fresh mistakes and new, fresh problems. The problem of her father, for example. And the problem of Shoe. Both problems.

What would happen if she did go back? Shoe would be fine, right? He had Tam, and not having her around would probably make so many things easier on him.

She didn’t know what her father wanted, though. Maybe he just wanted to find a way to apologize to her. Maybe he missed her, needed her. Maybe he wanted to fix things and hug her and keep her close. Maybe losing her was like losing his wife all over again. Maybe, when she told him about everything she’d done, his eyes would glow warm with pride and he’d rest his hand on her shoulder and tell her how much she’d grown, how much she reminded him of her mother.

Just thinking about those things made her want to cry. Having a family again would be… would be wonderful.

But he had hurt her.

Whether or not she deserved it— and she had— he’d hurt her. If Shoe could be so kind to her, why couldn’t her own father?

Shoe…

She smiled to herself, watching him asleep on the beach. Asleep, which meant she had a few minutes to think.

And blush, and grin, and even maybe giggle to herself.

Not that you’ve got much of a chance now, she thought, but still— he’d said I think I love you. Drunk, yes, but he’d said it! And he’d kissed her, too, even if only as part of a game.

Even if it all meant nothing, she loved being near him. She loved the way she could always see his emotions on his face, and sometimes just looking at him made her want to smile. His presence was so comforting, and hugging him felt more like home than anything else ever. He was so pure and sweet and absolutely perfect and she definitely didn’t deserve him.

Yeah. Right. There was still that problem.

But maybe they could go back to being friends, and she could still hug him now and then, and protect him from all the bad things.

Beosta made a sandcastle. It was a very bad sandcastle, so she ended up knocking it over and starting from scratch. That one wasn’t quite as bad, and it was very big. She imagined it was a department store with huge signs pointing to the shoe section.

She also thought about some things. But for the most part, she just let herself not worry for a while and just played in the sand. She left her cloak with Livetha, and underneath it she wore some regular trousers and a loose, long- sleeved but breathable off-white shirt.

Shoe woke up on the beach for the second time in twelve hours. He sat up and brushed the sand off his face.

Good morning, he said groggily.

Right on cue, the left hand turret fell over.

He snorted a laugh, running his hands through his hair- which apparently still had assorted bush items in it.

That was convenient timing, he said, picking little leaves and sticks out of his hair.

“Tell me about it,” she grumbled, kneeling to fix the turret. “Scudding castle.”

Gaioh and Bat appeared, startling Beosta and making her knock over another tower. “Scud you,” she told them both.

“Hey, guys,” Gaioh said. “So, uh, what are we doing right now?”

“Fixing my department store castle. No breathing or it will fall over.”

He'd made a tiny flag out of a twig and a leaf, which he stuck into the sandcastle carefully.
