Even after they pierced it, they were so insignificantly weak as to be invisible. Despite all their efforts, the Tearsmiths couldn't manage to contact the woman, let alone kill her.

"But come on Grandma! I know that the universe isn't destroyed, because we still exist!" little Talar compained. "If I know that, why not tell me the rest?"

After Talar was safely in bed, Grandma stood outside her home, watching as the wave of nothingness slowly crept up on her house. Not destroyed yet.

Twenty-seven times, she thinks, I can't save the universe again. She glances at Talar's room. Maybe just once more. For her dead daughter's only son. But then it's someone else's turn. She thinks.

Asela gritted her teeth.

"You know why I did what I did, Nyx." She calmed herself.

"And besides that, I saved your life," she continued. "I think that's enough to warrant a favor."
