Toaster Retribution he/him Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 At Gavilars party, we think we see several Heralds. Darkness/Nalan seems to be there, and it is theorized that he is joined by Kalak. Baxils mistress, who is believed to be Shalash, is confirmed to have been at the palace, and is mentioned by Nalan during the party. Some believe that Jezrien is the drunk man who speaks to Szeth. So, why are all these guys there? Did they know that Gavilar would die? Did they just want to befriend powerful people (Nalan and Kalak speaks to Elhokar)? How come they all gathered there? 2
Yata he/him Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Well at least Nalan and the man who probably it's kalak know of Szeth and they know he has Jezrien's Blade. I will say that they know what it about to happen and for some reason they approve it. I see no other explaination for Nalan to do not hunt Szeth for what he did. Of course it's possible that he think at Szeth as a weapon instead of a killer and the Szeth's masters was the one to punish. 1

Nale is ready to create Szeth Fan Club cause Szeth followed the laws of his people. Nale says that at the end of WoR. 3
Erklitt Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Maybe they already had an inkling that the desolation was near. After all, Gavilar already had his visions. That would make Gavliar's party about the center of the universe on that day: the most powerful king of eastern Roshar, who was about to try bringing the voidbringers back in order to bring the heralds back (!), was hosting said voidbringers (without knowing it) in order to sign a treaty with them. Witnessing the assassinantion (that they probably at least condoned) would be an added bonus. Guess they had nowhere better to be...
Sam Script he/him Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Nale doesn't want the KR to come back to Roshar, so he's hunting down the Surgebinders with Nahel Bonds. By preventing the SBs from returning, he might think this could stop the next Desolation. As for Szeth, he just wielded Jezrien's Honorblade. He's not the SB when Desolation come, as a result not his prime target. I'm not sure why Nale chose Szeth to join the Order of Skybreakers, but for now Szeth still has no Nahel spren but Nightblood. No matter what Nale is gonna do to stop the True Desolation coming, he would have and has failed. Pretty weird, huh?
Yata he/him Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 A simple thing that never came to my mind. If the drunk man at the party is indeed Jezrien. Szeth met him carring his own Honorblade.
thegatorgirl00 she/her Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Maybe they wanted free food. Buying food to feed yourself for a thousand years has to get expensive after a while. 7

Stormgate he/him Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Whatever they are, they're Invested certainly.

No way they are slivers (like in mistborn Spoiler how Vin Kel or Rashek was a sliver who actually held the power of the shard ), they are definitely not shards but they certainly are invested or boosted by honor the most. Jondesu he/him Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I suspect the Heralds are or are bonded to some type of Splinter of Honor, but since we can see that the "natural" form of a splinter on Roshar seems to be a spren, there's obviously more to it than that. The Honorblades are a huge part of that, but possibly not all of it, since Taln seems enhanced even without his blade. We don't know if the Heralds retain a bond to their blade no matter what, though, which is one theory I've seen (and it has a lot of merit). jW
I_am_NOT_fire Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I've taken to shouting "herald alert" whenever I spot one in any of the books. 1
