DSC01 he/him Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Well Jasnah spent time in Shadesmar. She may discovered very much about the Spren-bond. Maybe also from ancient Radiant Spren with Memories of old Knight I think that this is exactly what happened. While the scene isn't long enough for us to realize it, the Jasnah that talks to Hoid at the end of WoR is much changed from the Jasnah that we knew in TWoK and from the beginning of the book. 2

Yea, she emerges with burnt clothes and I think Wit mentions she has some kind of satchel she made herself. I imagine she had to overcome some kind of crucible there. Maybe her progression can only happen in Shadesmar and she has to impress the spren. 1

Agreed. I really hope we eventually get the story about what happened there...
DSC01 he/him Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Did you guys read the beginning of that story, that got released on Tor.com a little over a year ago? I somehow missed it when it came out and just found it a few weeks ago. I have therefore been eagerly linking it anytime I have the slightest excuse to do so. So, here it is again: http://www.tor.com/2014/08/06/stormlight-archive-scene-after-words-of-radiance/ 1
Slaybalj Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Yeah... I quite enjoyed that... I gather sanderson has actually written out the story...but has indicated it will not be part of the next book, right? Thus, i suspect that it will remain unpublished until after the front five books are done... And perhaps not until jasnah's book? As anxious as i am to read it, i think i have to agree that if its not relevant to the current story arc, including it would just create the sort of horrible sprawl that seems so common in fantasy.
DSC01 he/him Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I could be wrong, but I don't know if anyone is really sure whether or not this will be in SA3. I assume Jasnah will rejoin the main plot before the book is out (though not necessarily; Talenel sure didn't end up doing much in WoR, despite his dramatic appearance at the end of TWoK), so it's not like it's irrelevant. I wouldn't complain if there ended up being enough material like this to fill a novella, and that got released in 2016 to tide us over for Oathbringer (which now looks like it will be coming out a full three years after WoR).
Slaybalj Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I thought i read sanderson stating that while a stormlight archive novella may come out, it would probably not be jasnah's adventure in shadesmar... And from a pacing standpoint, it might not even make sense to publish beofre the third book... It might spoil some stuff he wants to reveal in another manner. I think she was doing something immensely important, but it might be able to be glossed over for the next three books to keep the arc on track. Given the only jasnah pov we have is the prelude to WoR, i think i expect that jasnah will reappear in book 3, but as a character in someone elses pov or, if she doesnt reconnect with a pov character, as an interlude character. I will be disappointed if she doesnt show up at all in book 3... She is easily my favorite character, but i dont want to sacrifice the whole of the series just to see more of her sooner.
Guest Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Brandon has stated the Jasnah mini novella was for his eyes only, so don't expect it to ever be published unless he changes his mind. As for Jasnah herself, just like Taln, she is supposed to be a main character in the second arc, not this one. I thus do not expect to read much from her until then. She is likely to be present, but I doubt her journey back to Urithiru will be featured within the main narrative. I personally expect her to be an interlude character for now and an occasional POV afterwards.
