Sol Invictus he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I'm new to Mr Sanderson's work, having discovered him via The Wheel of Time's final three novels. I've since become deeply interested in Mr Sanderson's Cosmere meta-setting. Of Cosmere fiction so far I've read the novels Elantris, The Emperor's Soul and Warbreaker; plus the smaller work "Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell." I own almost all the other books (in paperback, due to the lesser cost), and am will soon get started on the first Mistborn trilogy---or maybe Way of Kings---I can't decide! LOL Anyhow, I've been a fantasy/roleplaying nerd since my early teens and've become extremely bored with traditional, Tolkien-esque fantasy novels. Another author I'm currently reading is Adrian Tchaikovsky (his Shadows of the Apt series is well worth checking out). 1
Guest Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Welcome! Warbreaker is my favorite Cosmere novel, but as for learning more about the Cosmere, I suggest reading the Mistborn series first. It doesn't have to be read first, but many people do read the series before the SA. If you like roleplaying, you may want to check out the Reckoners freeform RPG, or Sanderson Elimination, which combines the classic party games Werewolves and Mafia with RP and Brandon Sanderson. Once again, welcome and enjoy your stay! Edit: Signups for a Sanderson Elimination are open right now, until June 30. Edited June 28, 2015 by Guest

Mistrunner Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Welcome! You should read Mistborn- then you'll understand what I mean when I say that he cookies are spiked. Soon, someone will come here with promises of cookies. They have literal spikes in them. Just a warning. You can probably tell already that the 17th Shard is a place of the weird and wonderful. Welcome to our world. Edited June 29, 2015 by Mistrunner
Sol Invictus he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Thank you! What I've read so far has been of the utmost excellence!
Titan Arum Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I'd strongly recommend Mistborn before the Stormlight Archive, simply because SA is Brandon's magnum opus. I started with SA, and missed so many things in it because of it's overall importance in the Cosmere. If I had to do it all again, I'd read all other Cosmere books prior to reading the Stormlight Archive...with one exception: I'd probably leave the short story Sixth of the Dusk to the end since it's set the furthest in the future out of all of his works currently published. Kipper mentioned that you should check out the Reckoners RPG. This would be a good idea, but you would probably need to read Steeleheart and Firefight first to understand the basic idea of the world. However, these books ARE NOT Cosmere, but are some of Brandon's most fun. Cheers, and have fun on the 17th!
