kroen Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Just got to the part in Alloy of Law when Miles thinks about how he doesn't need to breathe while tapping his metalmind. So gaspers are basically strictly worse...? Unless, of course, only a gold compounder doesn't need to breathe...?
Vortaan he/him Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Just got to the part in Alloy of Law when Miles thinks about how he doesn't need to breathe while tapping his metalmind. So gold compounding > Gasper > Bloodmaker when it comes to breathing.
kroen Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) Most Bloodmakers won't have the health to spare. So cadmium compounding > gold compounding > Gasper > Bloodmaker when it comes to breathing. Fixed. Unless the non-breathing effects are the same. Edited April 20, 2013 by kroen
Senor Feesh Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I would agree with the above; cadmium compounding should give a higher rate of return than gold compounding (for the purposes of breathing only). A gold compounder is effectively bypassing the need to breathe because their body is regenerating faster than the lack of oxygen is causing damage. I don't see this being near as effective as having loads of breath stored. I wonder though, if Miles could still function properly without oxygen? Sure, he wouldn't die for a long time (until he ran out of stored health) but the body uses oxygen to fuel chemical processes required for effective brain function, amongst other things. Thoughts? 3

The body also uses body to regrow so as not be exploded into twenty pieces, so I think Miles is getting away with a bit of matter-creation here. *TES, Warbreaker Spoilers* It's the same as when a Forged window suddenly gains glass out of nowhere, or a Vasher as a Returned is bigger than as a vagrant.
