natc Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 If I'm understanding atium shadows properly, the shadow splits when the person being predicted is themselves predicting the future, either through atium, electrum, or doing the Vin trick. So doesn't that mean that electrum shadows split immediately as soon as you start burning? That sounds pretty useless. Even more useless than I thought. 1
Kurkistan he/him Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) A lot depends on how much the usual mental enhancement of Allomancy can come into effect: if the amount of help the magic gives you with processing the extra info is anywhere near on par with how much Atium helps out, then you might be able to make use of it. Even at low or nonexistent levels of mental enhancement you could get at least some utility out of electrum: noticing that all your shadows that went left got cut in half by a death trap, for instance, Also of note is that I, at least, would think that multiple shadows => useless might not hold true for electrum (at least electrum unopposed by an atium-burner) just because that's how it works for atium. If it's just the oracle burning his own electrum and looking into his own future, literally every point where the shadows diverge would have to be as a result of the oracle's (potential) actions/decisions: so you have a lot more guidance of the process then when your opponent who's trying to kill you is the reason your shadows start splitting up; or you trying to kill your opponent trying to kill you trying to... is the reason someone else's split. That wasn't Electrum, when Zane charged Vin he was already expecting her to doge in a certain way so he went in poised and ready for her to do this, by reading his body language Vin realized what he was expecting her to do this let her change what she was going to do and caused her Atium shadow to split.
