I just finished reading The Hero of Ages today for the first time, and a question I've been wondering since the first few chapters of the series begs to be asked - how well would this story work as an anime movie/t.v. series or manga? The descriptions are so visually stimulating, I'd love to see an interpretation of this... Maybe by Miyazaki, perhaps? Any thoughts?

It could certainly be adapted by an animation studio, however, since most of them exist as Japanese developers you'd be hard pressed to get the attentions of a decent company like Ghibli or Madhouse or Production I.G. to take it up.

Although, after Avatar, I wouldn't mind if DiMartino and Konietzko set their sights on it. I just don't know if everyone here appreciates anime.

In general i would prefer any book adaptation be done via animation. The FX budget on most decent Fantasy Novels is epicly huge. Look at LOTR. Now think that it's the most famous fantasy series of all time. Nothing else warrants that level of attention.(Noting that GoT has a great deal of draw via third party factors(read breasts) that makes it marketable the way its working.) Mistborn doesn't have that kind of draw(although if the game is good it might gain it.)

Correction: Read "HBO."

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, especially about LOTR or Harry Potter; without the huge budget involved, either adaptation would have failed to be true to the books. It would be so painful to see the Mistborn series treated like the adaptations of Eragon, Twilight, or any number of other cheesy movies out there. Add to that, the complications behind portraying Allomancy in any way, I have a hard time seeing that played out by actors without loosing some of its character or depth... I just think there's a need for these books to be illustrated instead of acted out, it would be so much easier to stay true to the story...
