The Hanging Tree? Sounds like the sequel to The Giving Tree as written by Frank Miller

Or Enid Blytons The Faraway Tree. Please tell me other people have read that?

I loved the first book, second was okay, 3rd I couldn't stand. Also between hunger games and divergent (so I've heard - I couldn't make myself read the third) everyone dies in the end. EVERYONE. And just, no. It's like the author goes "I couldn't be bothered resolving anything. Let's just make the fangirls all emotional and kill them all."

I thought some of the deaths in the last Hunger Games book were fine, since Collins was trying to show how awful that war was. It did get oppressive after a while, though I still cried at the end. Divergent, though....I don't even know what she was trying to do there. Maybe make everyone cry the same way Collins did, but Roth forgot to make her characters memorable before she killed them. And all the poor plotting and shoddy worldbuilding in the second book is why I didn't even bother with the third.

The main things that bothered me with the second book was Tris and Four fighting for the sake of conflict, and the deus ex machina of the 'evil' dude freeing her because he was all of a sudden worried about not being in debt.

Ugh, so much yes. First it seemed like they had a decent relationship, and then it becomes clear Roth needed an easy source of pointless drama and a quick way to make her life worse, so she gives them the communication skills of tone-deaf parrots. <_<

I actaully strongly dislike teen dystopian novels.

All the same plot, so bland.

The Hunger Games was the only one I enjoyed.

A bit like after twilight there were a zillion paranormal romances with the same plot. Mostly "super rude but good looking dude who could kill her hangs around and doesn't communicate and is mysteriously attractive". Ugh. Bandwagons.

Yes exactly. Its all with the fads and stuff. After Twilight came out there was a burst of supernatural romance. After the Hunger Games there was a bunch of "teenage girl rebels in a society where the people are opressed."

Like really, I didn't dislike Divergent for the writing, the plot was just so similar to the Hunger Games. At least it didn't have a love triangle (if I recall correctly? Could be wrong; haven't read it in forever). But really, the HG books had very little to do with that tbh, it was all about the Capitol's opression which is why I like the books better than the movie. The movies took out what I found to be the true meaning of the book and replaced it with an overplayed love story.

I too, am getting tired of the teen dystopian, BUT I feel I should mention Matched. It's yet another trilogy, with yet another teen girl protag, and yet another love triangle, BUT the world is actually interesting, and not based on an obviously flawed premise like Divergent, the protag is actually interesting and not stupid, and the love triangle gets resolved at the end of the first book. I can't speak to how the second and third books are, though, as I haven't finished them, but the first one was quite promising.

I might try matched then. The covers caught my eye at the library, I just didn't want to invest in yet another dystopia.

Man, that kind of line takes a whole different context with your a Sanderfan lol. Now I picture the Delightful Shard zooming towards a horrific dystopia, about to invest it with magic, before just being like "Nope!"

HAHAHAH wow I didn't even see that one coming.

I mean, a dystopia with a Delightful Shard would just be a mess, wouldn't it? Cause the magic would be pushing towards *ahem* sparkles and rainbows and butterflies - but everything else is insane death and destruction.......

..........

Did I just describe the Oregon RP???

I just ate half a watermelon with a spoon

I think this was just a little bit bad idea

You came pretty close, replace butterflies with ponies and add shipping for the Question as well as needless cruelty for the in game RP and you got us down pretty well.

Now all you need is the Delightful Shard chanting "And then Nighthound died" as a coping mechanism.

Just had some authentic Turkish Delight, shipped from Turkey by a grateful customer.

This is the first time I have ever sympathized with Edmund Pevensie. :D

I'M CRYING

Congratulations on a job well done. ;)

So I'm an Elantrian Shard? o_O

Not an Elantrian one, you are the Shard of Oregon now you only need to travel there and unleash your full magical potential, so you can bring peace and happiness to all of Oregon. Disclaimer unleashing magic in Oregon may cause unspeakable pain, destruction and suffering.
