DoctaDajman Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Do Returned need to drink to stay alive? Of not... how would they interact as aetherbound? Would the aether simply drain directly from the Breath they consume each week requiring more than a single weekly breath? 1

They just eat and drink for fun. 26 minutes ago, DoctaDajman said: Of not... how would they interact as aetherbound? Would the aether simply drain directly from the Breath they consume each week requiring more than a single weekly breath? That is a good question, they could probably fuel their Aether with any extra Breath they have besides their Divine one, like how Twin Soul used a jar of Dor to supercharge his Roseite abilities. But it'd probably just default to their internal water reserves, which would be a lot more effective for a Returned since if they run out of Breaths for a week they die. So a Returned Aetherbound would be better off just carrying around some water bottles.
Nitpicking Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 It would be very hard for a Returned to be Aetherbound. They're strongly associated with Endowment's Investiture, and we are repeatedly told that Investiture from different sources is hard to mix. Not impossible, but hard. Also, maybe it's my philosophical background, but Endowment (gifting) is the exact opposite of an aether's Luhel bond (trading value for value).

Do aetherbound pull from the Spiritual realm like shardic magics do? Aethers are not tied to the shards and in fact claim to predate Adonalsium. I would argue that the Luhel bond may not have to play by the same rules as traditional shardic magic.
