Her breathing began to steady.

That was good.

She made him miss his siblings... so badly. Hopefully he'd get back to them soon.

She pulled back and wiped her face.

He wished he could have hugged her more. But oh well... a tleast she was a little better.

He stayed next to her, just in case.

Aela slowly woke up again, blinking a lot.

She looked around groggily.

". . . Hmm?"

Ian suddenly got scared for no reason. He went very still, like cardboard.

She was looking out the window and looked like she’d been crying.

Aela squeezed her hand and smiled softly at her.

"What's wrong?"

“What does that mean?”

“It means that The Flame depends on you.”

She stood, then walked to the rest of the party, sitting down and speaking softly. “I can tell you of Mirth, if you wish.”

Ah.

She smiled somberly and pulled Felicity into a hug.

"I'm sorry."

He blinked. Well, that made a little more sense, he guessed.

Lissy’s head shot towards her.

“I knew her, I think. Not as much as Drin, but I knew her. I was her Servant for…”

She frowned. “Well, for a month. Then she died - not under the same circumstances, but similar. Madness had gotten hold of the Archstone, and Mirth sacrificed herself.”

Ista hesitated. “When I knew her… she was in mourning. She had been betrayed by her only Servant, Berin, who became known as Wrath.”

“That’s- different, than how I remember her-“ She cut off and put her hand on the stain.

Ista nodded. “Berin… he was a good person. But his betrayal… it was brutal. The armies of Rage attack Intellect’s stronghold, and nearly killed him. Madness… she corrupted him. Twisted his shame, took advantage of the immense pain he found himself in. He was unable to die, you see, while the hatred of the soldiers remained.”

She paused. “He killed them. All of them, every one he could find. All by him self.”

She shivered. “It was… horrible, and Mirth was horrified.”

"She's... she's okay."

He gently stroked her hair.

"Are you sure? I may not be the most experienced but whenever Asher or Pyk cried it was because they were, not ok."

“Wh-what happened?”

“When he survived, Madness had already been corrupting him for some time, behind the scenes. He snapped, telling himself that he was protecting Intellect’s people. But… they were all already dead. I was one of the only survivors. He rampaged through the halls, and twisted their hatred into a great hunger.”

Ista stopped, and stammered a small amount. “It was the only example of mass cannibalism I’ve seen… of any cannibalism…”

”Mirth was… she wasn’t the same, after that. The entire reason she choose only a single Servant is because she knew her power was so much stronger than the others.”

Ian’s eyes were very wide. He didn’t know anything about any of that.
