Roscoe Any Pronouns Posted February 15, 2025 Posted February 15, 2025 This Herald, of course, being Kaladin. I had this discussion with someone a few days ago, so I'll summarize it here; Jezrien dies, Kaladin replaces him. Stormfather dies, many believe Syl is replacing him as the Honor-Sliver Godspren, as that Honor outside of Retribution had to go somewhere. Now; my questions begin. Kaladin would now hold a Nahel Bond with Syl, the new Godspren, what does this do to him? He's a Windrunner of the highest capacity, so this couldn't simply make him a Bondsmith, right? This is where my thoughts split- either his bond having the nature of a Bondsmith, and his Honorblade giving him the Windrunner abilities, or him being a Windrunner with a Bondsmith-Natured Surge of Adhesion. Just wanted to hear other people's thoughts on this (Or be informed of any misconceptions I have with how these things work) 6
RedBlue Posted February 15, 2025 Posted February 15, 2025 I could see Kaladin gaining Bondsmithing abilities in the future, if Syl really has inherited the Stormfather’s position. Now that I think about it, this would be a pretty cool progression for Kaladin. He tends to acquire new abilities over the course of the story, but as of now he’s capped out on Radiant powers — so in the back half he could learn Herald-specific powers plus Bondsmithing. 4

As if Bondsmiths aren't anything but simple. Also, I for one, am extremely interested in what resonance effects will occur with someone who is both a Windrunner and a Bondsmith. Dofurion Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I've mentioned this in other posts, but I'm particularly interested in the symbolic implications that would arise for Kaladin if he were to swear the Bondsmith Oaths. Counting his original oaths, the herald oath, and these theoretical 4 additional oaths, that would be a total of 10 oaths. It would be very curious if because of this the power of Honor felt inclined to Kaladin as the power of Odium feels inclined to Ba-Ado-Mishram. 6
Master Silver Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 Well, I hope Kaladin is a Bondsmith, that way Syl can get glory spren armor to keep her safe. 2
