I missed something - the rock

I think I missed something - I was reading part of the book while home sick and feverish (fell asleep reading some spiritual realm stuff and had a vwry weird fever dream as well). Anyway my question: What ended up happening with the small rock that was placed in Kaladin's pack?

Although a small moment might have missed my notice, I'm pretty sure nothing major happened with the rock. It's not a peakspren or anything crazy. Maybe Brandon was planning to do more but forgot or ran out of room.

I was wondering about this too, it seemed to be mentioned so deliberately. 

And since they went too Shinovar where rocks are revered, I thought it might become important somehow.

With the back cover blurbs of the books being written by Sleepless, and seeing that some of them are about Kal - my theory is that the rock is a sleepless. It would explain why it just reappears
