Qianweilian He/him Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 On page 1261, Nightblood says he can restore Szeth's lashings after he broke his Skybreaker bond. Quote "Yes," the sword said. "I can restore your Lashings. Those are easy. Even a spren can give those." Can Nightblood only replicate the Skybreaker lashings? Or could it replicate any surge. Could the sword give other lashings? Could it learn to give you Allomancy or the ability to draw Aons? Has Nightblood just become a "super" honorblade?
NattyBo Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) I took it to mean any surge of Roshar since he was talking to almost all of the honorblades through the Shinovar arc. He asks them to dull themselves to not cut through the cloth they’re being held in, and goes from there, presumably. Edited December 10, 2024 by NattyBo
teknopathetic he/him Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Makes me wonder if Nightblood can provide any surges, just the surges he learned form the honourblades, or just the surges that Szeth was connected to on a deeper level?
majic Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 He was able to forge a connection with Kaladin, which is a Bondsmith power. Afaik Szeth never trained with the Bondsmith blade. I assume that means Nightblood can provide all of them. 1
DiePie Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I assumed it was related to the investiture he consumed. Ate some Stormlight off a Skybreaker, took a nice bite out of the Bondsmith blade. I've been a fan (for a while) of the theory that Nightblood is becoming more powerful as he consumes investiture, so I'm partial.
Calten_Gnomercy Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Yea, I took it as he can provide any of them. Thats gonna be a crazy story to follow in the 2030’s. Haha 1
a Faceless Immortal he/him Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 We were all worried about Hoid going around and collecting all the Cosmere powers, but it appears we were wrong. Nightblood is the endgame. He alone will reforge Adonalsium. 6
BinarySecond Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Have long would it take for Nightblood to consume Hoid?
Jbbi Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I think for Szeth, Nightblood also may have access to Szeth’s Connections to lashings in his Spiritweb, giving him a ‘roadmap’ to reconnect them. I think Nightblood can not grant access to surges Unless they had had access previously. A bad analogy could be that Nightblood can not create a door to surges but can unlock an existing door that was locked to surges. Nightblood was terrifying and OP before WAT, I think if they could grant surges too that could be world breaking. I can’t see Brandon allowing something quite that uncontrollable. Would break most of the systems I can imagine 3 hours ago, BinarySecond said: Have long would it take for Nightblood to consume Hoid? Wouldn’t be able to do so in one sitting. Nightblood would saturate, have to stop/slumber then restart. Ie when Rayse was consumed
Qianweilian He/him Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Could Nightblood restore Kelsier's Mistborn powers then?

Has Nightblood just become a "super" honorblade? I assumed anything the honor blades can grant, he can too. He effectively learned how to do all the surges from the honor blades, with investiture it can grant *any* of them. I suspect, if you stick him in a room with a bunch of medallions with the various allomantic and feruchemical arts, I bet he could grant those too. Maybe if you put it in Elantris, the city might teach him Aons, but that remains to be seen. 1 minute ago, Qianweilian said: Could Nightblood restore Kelsier's Mistborn powers then? When He's holding it, sure. 1 hour ago, Jbbi said: Wouldn’t be able to do so in one sitting. Nightblood would saturate, have to stop/slumber then restart. Ie when Rayse was consumed Hoid is significantly less invested than a vessel. Unless he's holding a dawnshard, that is. If he's holding a dawnshard, I suspect something terrible would happen when Nightblood and a dawnshard clash.
