So I was just strolling through the Aracum, as we do, and found an interesting WOB and an idea I had about it.

Spoiler

clyguy

Someone else brought up the point, can blood be Awakened?

Brandon Sanderson

Anything can be Awakened.

clyguy

If you make a human-shaped mold and you poured blood into it and you Awakened it, would you have a Terminator T-1000 style blood-golem that could recombine?

Brandon Sanderson

Um, heh, well Awakening liquid is possible but I don't think it would work the way you want it to.

Questioner 2

If you had enough of a cloud in one place, could you Awaken a cloud?

Brandon Sanderson

Um, you could Awaken anything. It's probably not going to work the way you want it to. There is a reason why they Awaken the things that they do. For instance if you want to make a transforming golem, you would be much better off with something thicker.

Awakened Clay seems like a much better alternative to making an Awakened Golem with T-1000 abilities, problem is that clay isn't alive, so it'd take the 9th Heightening right?

But what if it wasn't entirely clay? What if you mixed in human bodily fluids like blood or spit with the clay to make it more 'alive' and then Awakened it? Could that work?

We know that using a part of one's own body, like hair, can act as a 'Focus' to cheapen the cost of Breath for Awakening, so if how would it work if living tissue was mixed with a non-organic substance? Would it make it easier to Awaken?

I think it would still require the 9th Heightening but you won't need as many Breaths to Awaken that clay. Blood/spit would act as a Focus, but you're still Awakening clay, it's still non-organic - that's why you need the 9th Heightening.

That seems like a pretty fine line, to the point that it might get influenced by Perception and Intent.  Things like Sea Shell Sand, Fire Ash Clay, fossils, etc. could all fall into a grey area.  Are they Awakening the Mineral Powder that happens to have an Organic Binder & Focus, or are they Awakening a bunch of Organic matter with a mineral Thickener?

Going back to Fire Ash Clay, It's made from cremated organic sources, and you could still use organic binders.  It's inferior to mineral clay in terms of long term water resistance and such, but it's functional.  But if the Awakener isnt aware of that nature would they be able to Awaken it? If they have a PhD in Organic Chemistry and consider anything with Carbon to be an "Organic" Chemical, would that change the awakening landscape for them?

Could you powder up some dried bone and mix it with blood to create clay or some kind of bio-dough? If you wrapped up a brain would it work as a lifeless?   I know this is some sick necromancer crap.

What about sawdust and blood?  Natural resins to make it plyable?
