Hmm... We could skip forward, bit that might mess up people's timelines. Maybe she could have a classic demigod nightmare and wake up from it?

Ooooh! Good idea.

It's going to take me a second to think of a good nightmare.

Elsie was still sleeping, though it seemed less restful.

Terrance decided there was no point in moving.

Elsie was falling. Everything was dark. She heard screams, but didn't feel fear. She kept falling, until a voice boomed from deeper in the void. "Foolish child. You are messing with things you don't understand."

For some reason, the voice terrified her. "I'm sorry, what?"

"Wake up."

She woke up screaming and waving her arms like a madman. "Holy crap-"

Terrance jumped, getting smacked by her flailing arms. He quickly put some more distance between them.

"Oh geez, I am so sorry." She said.

"Wait, really? I thought it was the stress."

"Well, I'm sure that can contribute. But nightmares are much more common for us, and tend to have real meanings sometimes."

She snorted. "I highly doubt the spooky void voice has much meaning to it, but okay." She said, attempting to play the nightmare off as a joke. She wasn't very good at it.

He frowned.

He once again went silent.

"...The nightmares aren't, like, prophetic or anything, right?" She asked, anxiety evident in her voice. "I really don't want to fall to my death."

"Not necessarily. Sometimes it's metaphorical, or just meant to scare you, or it could mean nothing at all."

"Ok. Good." She said, nodding.

Terrance couldn't help but feel a bit worried. Given Elsie's many associations by way of her mother, that dream could mean something very bad was on the horizon.

"Can you describe the dream to me? What did the voice say, and sound like?"

"Well, I was falling through a void. There were these distant screams, but they died out quickly. Then a voice said something along the lines of: Stop messing with things you don't understand, you stupid kid! I responded with a confused what? and the the voice told me to wake up. And I did."

I need to do something. I should be back in ten minutes.
