“I think I can. Whatever Aaron did turned the wound from debilitating into annoying. The walk is certainly not going to be fun, though.”

Jenny gave a wry laugh.

”I’ll just pretend I’ve got a giant stitch in my side.”

“If you need to stop, we can. I’ll make sure everyone else does.”

“No, we can’t afford to waste time. I’ll tough it out. Once we get on the train, I’ll have plenty of time for sitting and resting. I appreciate it, though.”

Jenny smiled at Ed reassuringly.

Just now, Scars of Hathsin said:

"Are we finally leaving?" Aaron says hopefully back up in his tree again

”I’m good with that.”

She looked around, assessing everyone’s various states of readiness.

He smiled back. He’d carry her if he needed to. Gift flowed to her and became a staff.

Jenny hiked in a small circle, practicing using the Gift-staff efficiently for walking. She wasn’t leaning on it quite as heavily as she was before. She thought at Gift.

How’s Ed doing?

Gift would know more about Ed’s emotional state than she would.

He’s…I’m not sure if I should share that. He’s good, for the most part. He likes being around you. He wants you to be safe, to not hurt, and so it worries him sometimes.

Oh, sorry I’m being too nosy.

Jenny was glad Gift had decided not to tell her all of the details. She realized that this was basically spying on Ed, and that wasn’t fair. She felt pretty terrible about her prying, now.

At least Ed was doing okay. She’d have to find some way to get rid of his worry. Would confessing her feelings make him worry for her more? Now she was even more scared of doing that. Did it outweigh her fright that she’d never get to tell him?

It’s just something that is personal to him, nothing bad about you.

Alright.

Jenny still regretting asking. Gift could literally read thoughts, and she doubted anyone wanted their mind read against their will. She was admittedly still quite curious what the thing that Gift decided not to share was, which just made her feel worse.

She made her way back over to Ed and plopped down on the ground next to him. Jenny decided that she should probably expend as little energy as possible while waiting to leave.

Lucid meandered over to the duo once more, I don't want to be redundant though-

Edgar sat next to her. Gift flowed to her hand, tugging it gently towards his.

Jenny, once again, waved. It was a tried and true greeting method that she tended to default to. Less chance of offending someone if she wasn’t speaking.

Gift spun around their hands, almost seeming joyful. “Oh,” Edgar said, excited. I can’t believe I forgot!” He pulled his pack off, then reached inside, pulling out a wrapped mass, the head of Medusa. “I wanted you to have this.”

Jenny tilted her head, a bit confused.

”Aren’t you supposed to keep your monster-trophy things? You earned this, and it’s a super valuable one too. It’s really cool, though…”

She was tempted to lift the veil, take a peek at maybe just the back of Medusa’s head, but she resisted the urge. She settled for aimlessly poking it instead.

“It’ll help you, or it’s supposed to somehow. That’s the best thing it could do for me.

He resisted the urge to snatch her hand away from it.

“Well, thank you!”

Maybe having this would make Ed worry about her less. Jenny held up the head and pulled the cloth tight, trying to see the outline of it better. She scrutinized it for a while. The face seemed to be intact. Odd that the head didn’t seem to be rotting.

”Do you think I should try to point it at monsters? I don’t want to accidentally petrify an ally.”

“Hmm.”

Jenny held up Sword and compared its size against the head’s. The dagger was a fair bit shorter.

”Should I try and chop some snakes off? Maybe just stab the head and see what happens?”

She very carefully stuck Sword under the cloth and poked the head, making sure not to damage it.

Edgar smiled. He hoped Jenny would like the gift. Should he ask her now…no, still not yet. He’d have to wait a while, maybe until he knew himself.

“I probably should stop messing with this until I know what I’m doing.”

Jenny went to put the head inside of her bag, but then noticed the knives scattered about inside of it. There was a solid chance they’d slice open the cloth covering it.

”Is it ok if you hold onto this for me? It might get a little skewered in my pack.”
