Edgar felt anger rising up through him. Couldn’t Roy just leave her alone for a little bit? He was probably the cause of this. Edgar fought the urge to turn around and punch Roy.

Jenny whispered back.

”Hurts.”

Demigod bodies were so fragile. The girl couldn’t handle a mere headache. She still needed to be at least somewhat functional, however, so she was finally allowed to acknowledge the pain in her head.

He helped her to the ground, brushing a steady stand of hair out of her face. Why was it so much easier for him to be the one in pain? Now it was Jenny, and he didn’t know how to help.

“What hurts?”

“Head.”

Jenny’s eyes were beginning to fill with tears. Saying anything more than single words made everything hurt more, so she didn’t bother. She was permitted to grab Edgar’s hand, however, so she did, squeezing it hard.

He squeezed it back. Maybe it was the nose hurting her? She seemed to be in a lot of pain. He grabbed her bag and fumbled around in it, cutting himself twice before finding the earplugs he had made. He put them in her ears, hoping they would help some. Then he took off his own pack, putting it under her head to cushion it.

I hate autocorrect sometimes.

“I…I don’t know. I don’t know what she needs. Maybe just quiet?” He spoke softly, trying not to hurt Jenny any more.

“Thanks.”

Ed had hurt himself. Jenny felt awful. This was her fault. The earplugs helped a little, preventing noise from escalating the headache, at least. She shut her eyes to try and block out the light, but that just removed all sensations but her pain, so she opened them again.

"From what i can tell, she's been suffering from the- whatever it is- for a while-"
he says in a hushed tone, trying not to do anything to Jenny

Edgar started shaking. What more could he do? He needed to help her. With a trembling hand he removed a couple painkillers from his bag and held them out to Jenny.

Jenny accepted the painkillers and managed to choke them down. They didn’t do much, but maybe they just needed to take a while to kick in. She stared at the sky and tried to look at clouds to calm herself down, but her vision was too blurred with tears to make out any shapes.

Edgar sat next to her, wishing he could take her pain. Once again, he was useless.

Jenny’s headache began to fade. It was odd how quickly it seemed to come and go. She tried to wipe away her tears with her sleeve, embarrassed by her show of weakness. She turned her head to look at Ed and stared at the cuts on his hands. He’d hurt himself because of her.

”Sorry.”

“It’s ok,” he said, dabbing at the cuts with his sleeve. “I’m fine, are you?” The cuts stung, but he hid the pain.
