“It’s just pain. I’ll survive.”

Jenny gave Edgar a weak smile. She couldn’t let him see her true pain. He’d get too concerned. Too curious. He’d ruin everything like the bumbling idiot that he was.

“I know you will but…well I don’t want you to be hurting.” He tried-and failed-to smile back. Something seemed off, more than just the pain.

Jenny grabbed Edgar’s hand.

”I’ll be ok, I promise.”

The headache disappeared.

Why wasn’t Ed smiling? What had happened? Her pain was making him sad. She hated that she was making him worry. She became a bit embarrassed by falling like this. Lucid and Aaron must’ve thought she was weak now.

He squeezed her hand. Then, that not being enough for him, he wrapped her on a hug. “I know you will be. I just…worry sometimes. I’m sorry.”

Jenny hugged him back. Ed was apologizing for being worried. Now she felt twice as bad for making him feel this way. She hugged him a little tighter, wishing for some way to take his worry from him.

He clung to her, almost in desperation. He needed her to be ok, he needed her to be there, he needed her to be happy.

He wondered if he loved her. Her tight he might, but he wasn’t sure yet. Time would probably tell. He wondered what love felt like. Was this it?

Jenny eventually pulled back. She wanted to pretend to be happy for Ed, but she wasn’t feeling like much of an actor at the moment. She was just so tired. It took quite a bit of effort to keep herself from closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.

“You look tired,” he whispered to her. “Are you sure you’re ok?”

“Not really. I’m more ok than I was yesterday, though. I guess it depends on your definition of ok.”

Jenny glanced at the horizon. Still no sign of Harold and Rob yet. And she was still so tired…

”Please wake me up when Rob and Harold get here.”

She then grabbed her jacket and curled up, using it as a pillow. More than anything else, she just wanted to sleep.

Edgar wanted desperately to help, but he wasn’t sure how he could. “I will,” he said. He sat next to her, then slowly slid his hand under one of hers, curling his fingers around it.

“Okay…? Maybe? What do you mean by that?”

"Well, you want a warm sewer so you are sheltered but also dry. It's better than the streets. Trust me." Harold says, locating one. "Like this one."

"We have under a week, and I just got Jenny up from sleeping like half an hour ago" he swings down from the tree, nudging both Edgar, and Jenny with his toe. "Wake up sleepy heads"

Jenny’s eyes shot open and she glared at Aaron, sitting up.

”We need to wait for Harold and Rob to get back before we can leave. I figured I might as well sleep while we waited. I don’t want to slow us down because I’m too tired.”

She would’ve been harsher with Aaron, but she was constantly reminding herself that he was only twelve. He was remarkably annoying for even a twelve year old, however. At least he could help with healing and fighting.

"Uhhh fine" he moans, rolling his eyes. He swings back up into the tree a small hammock shaping while he climbed, and by the time he got to it, it was finished, he quickly hopped in it, laying down.

Hopefully Aaron would go to sleep and leave Jenny alone now. She tried to fall back asleep, but by this point she’d been woken up enough that it wasn’t feasible anymore. She decided against using Hypnokinesis to fix that; the strain of using that power in her poor condition would mean she’d be even more tired once she woke up. Jenny started to readjust her hair, which had become a bit wonky from lying down.

Lucid was just reading to the side, every once and a while looking up.

Jenny peered over Lucid’s shoulder, trying to see what was written in his book.

”What book are you reading?”

She’d never been one for reading. She got her letters mixed up too often for it to be fun. The lack of any education from ages six to twelve also made her reading skills rather poor.

I know I’ve been posting a ton of Jenny stuff, so if y’all would like me to back off a bit please let me know.

Edgar took that opportunity to wrap an arm around her.
