“It’s the voice, I think.”

Jenny summoned Sword and stepped back. She hoped that she hadn’t brought the figure along with her, put Ed in danger too.

”It wouldn’t leave me alone, but I managed to escape somehow. Coming here was an accident.”

Fortunately, she wasn’t injured in this dream. Her fighting skills were back to normal, although she wasn’t sure how effective they would be against a giant shadow-person.

Edgar reached out, trying to form a sword, but nothing happened. He didn’t have gift. He felt like he’d been left bare, Gift was almost a part of him.

“What should I do?”

“Yell if you see a giant shadowy person wearing a hood.”

Jenny felt a chill on the back of her neck and went into a throwing stance. Her attacks probably would be ineffective, but she had to try. She could heard faint, deep laughter from somewhere up above.

Can Edgar hear it?

Edgar jumped in surprise. “Is…is that it?” He felt useless again, no weapon to help him.

Ed could hear it, that was bad. Jenny nodded at him. She covered her ears as the laughter got louder and louder until it was nearly deafening. She could feel it reverberating through her, seeming to painfully echo within her entire being.

Suddenly, it stopped. For a few seconds, it was dead quiet. Everything was still. She hesitantly removed her hands from her ears.

”I think it’s g-“

Then, the massive hooded figure reappeared with a final cackle. Not in front of Jenny. Right in front of Ed.

He yelped and jumped back. This thing…what was it? It terrified him. It would destroy him. It…it was doing something to Jenny. It was in her head, and she didn’t like it. Finding a burst of courage, he stepped forward, raising a fist. “L…leave us alone.”

How pitiful.

It took a step towards Ed. Despite not being able to see its face, Jenny could’ve sworn it was grinning. It was going to hurt him. She couldn’t let that happen.

The thing was connected to her, somehow. That meant she needed to wake up. There was only one way she knew how. Jenny raised Sword with a trembling hand.

She then slit her throat, dying within the dream and taking the figure with her. She woke up and immediately roughly shook Ed awake.

He woke up, eyes wide with fear. Tears ran down his cheeks. She wasn’t dead. It had been a dream. But it had seemed so real… He was immensely relieved to see her.

Lucid quickly looks down at the two, before continuing his sleepy watch- well.. to be honest it wasn't much, he is just half asleep in a tree, watching for monsters.
". . . you two okay down there?"

Ed was crying. Jenny felt absolutely horrible. This was her fault. She’d brought her problems to him, tangled him up in this mess. Why did she always seem to hurt him? She hugged him tightly.

”I’m so sorry.”

”I’m fine.”

She said this tersely. That was terrifying, but she wasn’t going to tell Roy that.

”I’m alright.”

Jenny had gone and made a scene, apparently. Hopefully she hadn’t embarrassed Ed.

He hugged her back. “It’s not your fault. It’s whatever that voice is.” He wished she wouldn’t be sorry, it was his fault he hadn’t done enough.

Did Roy actually know what had happened? She decided not to think about it.

"Bad dream."

Jenny didn't want to reveal what an awful, insane person she was. Saying it was a bad dream wasn't a lie.

Jenny spoke quietly.

"I shouldn't have brought it to you. It was an accident, but that doesn't mean it wasn't my fault. I should've know better than to flee. I ran somewhere else after breaking out of my dream, and you were the closest sleeping person."

Terrance watched, twirling his weapon in one hand, which he had gotten out upon hearing the commotion.

“I’m here to help you, and if that means you’re walking into my dreams and bringing whatever you need help with there, so be it.” He smiled weakly at her.

Jenny was about to argue that Ed couldn't help her with the figure, that no one could help her, but then he stood up and started yelling at Roy. She grabbed his hand and gently tried to pull him back down. She appreciated him standing up for her and felt equally as upset about Roy doing that, but they couldn't afford for Ed to get injured too.

"It's not worth it, Ed."

"I doubt you actually feel bad about this."

Roy was a liar, and this was a convenient situation for him to lie about. There was no way he really cared about Jenny enough for his apology to be legitimate.

He shrugs and finally gets to sleep, considering that everyone was talking and awake.

Jenny wasn't used to someone being ready to fight for her. She simultaneously felt happy that was the case and bad that the situation had escalated this much. She didn't let go of Ed's hand.

She hated the idea of falling asleep again, but she couldn't even if she wanted to. She was now experiencing a feeling of ambient dread without the need for Terrance's help.
