What Roy said made some sense. But why was he only realizing that just now? And this was an extremely big change of heart to have this quickly. Jenny didn’t quite believe his story.

“Liar.” Edgar twisted his face out of the dirt. “Don’t lie. What do you really want?”

Jenny tried to help Ed sit up. She attempted to brush some of the dirt off of his face.

Most of it?”

Jenny was bristling. Roy was planning something. It was something awful, most likely.

”I need to know all of your plans involving me.”

"that is my only plan involving you."

“You have more than one plan?”

Jenny knew Roy couldn’t be trusted, but she had been unaware of any larger schemes he had besides trying to murder her and Ed. She shifted so that she could quickly draw Sword if needed. Did his plans have to do with that master he had mentioned?

Editing to add that I can have Kronos help sway Jenny a bit if needed to keep Roy on the quest because this is going south pretty quickly :P

Jenny nearly began to speak, but something stopped her. It was a feeling. Not too terribly strong, but present. Roy wasn’t lying about wanting to help her. She’d been weakened, he could’ve likely used his madness magic to distract her enough to retrieve his spear. He could’ve killed Edgar while he was paralyzed, too. He wouldn’t have needed a spear for that.

Slowly, she moved her hand away from Sword. She had her own secrets too. Ones that only Edgar knew. Maybe Roy was simply hiding his regular secrets. Everyone had secrets.

Jenny turned away from Roy and started wondering what to do about her wound, staring at it a bit concerned.

Edgar held up his own dagger. “What are you hiding Roy?”

She… she had to stop this. Edgar was going to kill Roy. Jenny was hurt, she could use that.

”Hey Edgar, do you have any bandages?”

Jenny coughed a little, getting some blood on her sleeve. The blood had been from before, when she’d first been stabbed- she’d healed enough by now that blood had quit traveling up her throat. It looked pretty scary, though.

Edgar looked down. He hadn’t realized how hurt she was. It looked like it hurt a lot.

“I’m so sorry!” How had he forgotten that she’d been hurt? “Yeah, I do.” He pulled some out of his bad, ignoring the wrapped head of Medusa. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s ok. This isn’t your fault. You stopped this from killing me.”

Jenny tried to stand but stopped, grimacing. The adrenaline had left her system and her side suddenly hurt terribly. This was probably the worst injury she’d had. Was this how Ed had felt earlier? She now felt even worse knowing that Ed had gone through this too. Hopefully she’d get over it quicker than he did.

Edgar gently pushed her back down, then began wrapping her side, his hands shaking. “I should have protected you better.” He looked at Roy, hatred in his eyes. “I can make sure this never happens again…”

Jenny placed a hand on Edgar’s arm.

”Edgar, I think it’ll be ok. He’s never acted this nicely before, I think he’s actually sorry. We can be careful still, though. We-“

She cut off, grimacing again. She spoke again in a softer voice that trembled slightly.

”Wow, talking hurts.”

Hopefully that’d make Edgar agree with her to keep her from talking more. None of what Jenny was saying was lies, so she didn’t feel bad about this. Talking really did hurt.

“Then don’t talk, please.” He finished wrapping her side, then sat there, unsure of how else to help. Jenny might trust Roy, but he didn’t. He never would. He’d never hated someone so much.

Jenny nodded silently. Edgar wasn’t threatening Roy anymore, that was good. She looked at Ed and pointed at herself, then the nearest tree. She mimed a walking motion with her fingers. It would be nice to lean against something. Sitting up was hard, but she didn’t want to lie down either.

He smiled at her. She wanted to go to the tree, but he was worried that moving her would hurt her. Sitting probably hurt her…maybe she needed something to lean against? She could lean against him if she wanted to. “You can lean against me if you want, I don’t want to move you and make it worse. But only if you’re ok with it.” He wanted her to.

Jenny nodded in assent. Not moving was probably a good idea, although she hated the idea of not moving. She liked leaning against Ed, though. She would’ve scooted over to lean on him, but decided to fully commit to not moving. She was honestly a bit scared. Jenny was used to being injured, but she hadn’t been in real danger like this before. She could do some serious damage if she wasn’t careful right then.

He scooted over, then wrapped an arm around her, letting her rest against his side. He smiled widely.

That smile immediately disappeared. He had no right to be happy, Jenny was hurt and Roy was planning something.

Jenny noticed Ed stop smiling and frowned. He probably thought he shouldn’t be happy again. Normally she would’ve verbally explained that he deserved to be happy, but she couldn’t talk at the moment. So she pointed at him, smiled, pointed at her smile, then pointed at him again and made a thumbs up.

He smiled, but it was a sad smile. “How can I be happy if you’re hurt? And if I know Roy’s planning something? You might think he’s changed, but I’ve known him longer. He won’t change, he never has and he never will.”

Jenny paused, thinking about how she could respond. She pointed at herself, then at her smile. She then pointed at her dagger. She was attempting to communicate that she was happy and armed, but she’d always been better at shadow puppets than charades. Jenny had no idea how effective this would be.

She was…happy because she had Sword? Edgar couldn’t tell. “I don’t know what you’re saying.” He rested his head on hers for a second, then lifted it quickly, blushing. She probably wouldn’t want him to do that.
