"No... I've never really been able to put people back together. Sometimes they repair themselves somewhat. Otherwise, they make good projects. Good servants, too, in some cases."

"I don't plan on that. He's far too unique and interesting. No, he'll be an experiment, and I'll let you join me in conducting it. That way, you get to be with him. At least, whatever's left of him."

“It isn’t a choice. Fix him or die.”

She felt her muscles lock up again, her body becoming useless. "...No."

She left her body, entering limbo. If she changed her soul enough, back to her old self, she’d be found, and this man would die.

Would it be okay if that didn't happen? I think this could make for nice plot. Maybe she can't change it correctly, or she decides not to do that to herself because Tayen wouldn't want it (and he might end up getting hurt too)

Yeah, she won’t (although I would like to see a fight between this guy and the people she worked for.)

She began tearing at her soul, rearranging it. But then, she stopped. Tayen wouldn’t want this. There had to be another way. She entered her body again and slumped to the floor, feeling defeated.

"Oh, don't be so glum. There's always a chance he'll improve, and you get to do some interesting work while you're at it!"

“I swear I will find a way to bring you back,” she whispered to Tayen. She turned to the man. “What will you do with him?”

"We'll see! Some tests, plenty of observation."

“Fine.” She said through gritted teeth. “I’ll help you. But only to find a way to help him.”

Carab shrugged. "Very well. Now, where do you suggest we begin?"

“You’re the one that is supposed to do the testing, did you have nothing planned other than destroying his soul?”

"Well, all I knew was that a higher magical capacity leads to a more violent resistance when that limit is reached. So when he finally began to experience pain, I simply pushed it further to see how far it could go. This was quite unplanned."

Helda tried to slap him. “You did this on purpose! You pushed him further than he could go!”

She had no success in slapping him. "Yes... I could not have predicted the results, though. Especially his sudden resurrection. That puzzles me..."

“He’s…I don’t know why that happened,” she lied.

He eyed her, but made no comment on her statement. "Well, we could simply observe him for a while, or perhaps try to gauge his reaction to various stimuli."

“I think observing him would be best, no need for anything else right now.”

"Alright. In the meantime, I have some more tests for you. You were here for an initial purpose, before we got... derailed."

“How do I know I will not be…changed like Tayen?” she asked, seeming to grow more in control of herself.

"I cannot promise the tests will be completely safe, but I will not be doing the same to you that I did to him. I'd rather not lose a second person with such high magical capacitance."
