Tayen heard something, but didn't quite know what it was. He waited.

There was no noise, no movement. Just silence.

Just now, Just-A-Stick said:

"Will you rest with me? I don't wanna be by myself, and you're tired to." Rex reached out and touched the dark bags beneath Daniel's eyes.

”I will watch over you. You won’t be alone. And I’ll be here to wake you if you need to be woken. “

Eventually, he peeked around the trees to see what was happening. Upon seeing her limp on the floor, he felt an uncontrollable spike of fear. Was she okay? She had to be okay, being away from him was best for her...

I swear, he has a reason for staying awake.

He watched her drift off again, continuing to push back his own drowsiness.

Helda entered limbo. It was…better? She could leave, forget the pain, be replaced by a shade eventually. It was better that way.

I love it too!!! Daniel’s just watching her, staying awake for…reasons.

Next… I’m not sure. Hopefully my brain works better tomorrow.

Daniel felt…happy? He didn’t deserve to. He shouldn’t be.

Tayen lost track of time as he stood there, watching her. Then, all at once, it became too much. The warmth of her presence and her embrace, her care for him, her belief in him. The pain she was feeling in his absence. Most of all, his love for her. His resolve broke, and he rushed to her side, and his tears were flowing again, and he was shaking her, wanting more than anything for her to wake up.

She was slowly fading away into nothing, limbo becoming a blur. Her body was lifeless.

Not knowing what do to or how to help, he just pulled her close to him, weeping, hoping she would come back.

Should she be able to feel any of this in limbo?

Well, the issue is that he can't enter limbo at will like she can. So I don't know how he can reach her.

…I’ll have her feel something through limbo, a ripple.

A ripple slammed into Helda. It was…from Tayen! She nearly ignored it, but at the last moment she desperately tried to see what it was. He was…crying over her body? Should she go back?

Please. Please come back. I'm sorry. I need you.

She felt another ripple, the same thing, but this time she felt the emotion. She immediately launched herself back into her body, gasping. “You came back!”

Tayen was immediately awash with joy, and relief. Before words to tell her even formed in his head, he kissed her, deeply.

Rex dreamed.

all the memories kept flickering through her mind.

her father, dead in the fire.

the blazing piece of wood, falling across the back of her neck.

the searing, blinding pain.

her little, sweet baby sister.

dead in the bloody hands of her older brother.

her mother- the blurry memories of the happy times, before her mother got sick.

before her father started drinking.

before all the scars started appearing, all the bruises.

before her brother got  violent.

every patient she had ever lost, came back, along with the screams of pain, as she could do nothing to save them.

the farmer, run over by a wagon.

the little boy, fallen from a tree, neck cracked.

The girl who looked like her sister, shot through the gut with an arrow.

they clawed at her, ripping her clothing and scratching her skin. She screamed, thrashing and trying to get away.

You had fun with this, didn’t you?

Daniel shook her awake again. “Rex? What’s wrong?”

She melted into the kiss, joy overflowing throughout her. He had come back! She hugged him tight against her.

She leaned into his touch, shutting her eyes as a tear slipped down her cheek.  "Everyone. it was everyone" She was still whispering, as if she didn't have the strength to do anything else.

@The Aspiring Archivist

He kissed her harder, not caring if he breathed, only caring that he was with her now, and wanting to be with her forever. His hand tangled in her hair as he melted into her right back. How could he have ever thought that this was wrong?
