He flinched, pulling away.

She didn’t let him, merging fully.

Stop! His expression had changed from impassive to fearful.

“Then tell me what’s wrong!”

"I... oh...." Rex looked down, not saying anything.

”I won’t hurt you again. I’m sorry.”

You love me. The last person who loved me took my voice.

She gasped softly. “I would never do that, that’s awful! But I understand now. If you want to leave me, I’ll know why.”

You don't know why they did it.

“I don’t, you’re right. But that doesn’t change anything for me.”

Someone who was innocent, who I knew was innocent. Someone who also loved me.

She took his hand. “You can’t change that now. I wish you could. I wish I could change what I’ve done. But the only thing we can do now is to try and do better. This, what you’re doing, isn’t better.”

Why don't you hate me?

“You did something wrong. You made a mistake. And you changed, you recognized your mistake. Why would I hate you for that?” She pulled his head down to hers. “Mistakes don’t define you.”

It's not a small mistake. It's unforgiveable.

“Maybe so. But it still doesn’t define you. It can’t be forgiven, but maybe it doesn’t need to be. You can become better, you can do better next time. You already have.”
