Always draining Metalminds

Can you key a metalmind to always drain the given attribute or is that wishful thinking, If the person was tapping nicrosil and filling a metal mind then it was removed or he stopped tapping nicrosil would it trap the mind into always filling? Any other theories?

I don't know if I understand you. You want to "program" metalmind so it would always be tapped by you, even when you're sleeping? I don't think so? Maybe by some identity manipulation, because medallions can be used when sleeping, but medallions have some level of self-identity, metalminds don't.

And what about tapping nicrosil and filling a metalmind? I don't understand you here at all. If you don't have a power, and you have it in nicrosilmind, you can only fill certain metalmind when you're tapping that nicrosilmind and gaining that metal power, when you stop, you can't access that metalmind. Tapping and filling metalminds aren't separate powers of Feruchemy, they are just one power of Feruchemy, so you likely can't block metalmind to just filling/tapping phase.

They are metalminds, but the nicrosil portion of medallion works differently than a normal Feruchemist’s nicrosilmind. And medallions have more self-identity than normal metalminds.

Does the nicrosil portion of the medallions function identitically to how a Soulbearer Ferring would use Nicrosil?

Not exactly. The medallion is a little more restrictive, for one thing.

When you tap the nicrosil portion of a medallion, will it run out over time? Or is it like a coppermind, where something discrete is taken, used, and returned?

In Era 1, Sazed says the only thing you can Feruchemically store while sleeping is wakefulness, but in Era 2 they have the sky ships that require everyone to be storing weight to fly and they don't land while people sleep. Was Sazed just wrong, or is that a difference between normal Feruchemy and using the unsealed metalminds?

Unsealed metalminds, I am moving toward complete—you probably already guessed this—mechanical uses of Investiture, and this indeed is a step toward that. And so we are stepping toward having a little machine that gives you powers. That's what the world wants to try to find. And this is—this being mechanical—we'll just say that the medallions and the things that they're building have more of a life-force, more of an Identity of their own than a traditional metalmind does, even though they're unkeyed and all of this stuff.

So far it takes Ettmetal to create any effect independent of a feruchemist's conscious Intent, otherwise evidence suggests they have to be awake (other than storing wakefulness) and know what attribute they are Tapping or Storing.  So in the future they might work out some complex MetalArts device that is built to be stuck in "Drain-mode" (I picture their space ships needing adapted F-Bendalloy in place Toilets in their life support systems), but it will likely involved multiple metals and far mroe advanced realmic understanding than what Era2 had.  With "normal" UnKeyed and/or UnSealed Metalminds as we've seen, all the Intent involved still needs to come from the user, so there is no way for it to "get stuck" in an active state.
