Just before Miyako slammed into the soldiers, Hyron grabbed her and shot a vine to slow them down to the ground.

Miyako began to turn and punch whoever had grabbed her, but narrowly stopped when she saw who it was.

Miyako grinned and gestured at the guards. "Viney! You go left and I'll take right."

Hyron held Miyako by the shoulders. "No, calm down a bit, calm down," they said, "I've negotiated with the Queen."

Hyron leaned in close, and spoke softly and quickly. They were out of earshot of everyone else. "The voice in our heads has a plan, we just have to serve the Queen for a bit. She won't get our names, and we won't attack. We will get out of here, we just need to bide our time."

"The Queen will let us live and keep our free will, as long as we serve her in recompense for our actions," They said, leaning back, making it seem like nothing had happened.

"It's better than being killed, and I'm sure the Queen will let you rest. I can assist with my regular Breath, to provide boosts while you recover."

Hyron looked into Miyako's eyes. "Please." They whispered, "The voice has a plan, and I'm taking the risk."

Hyron looked into Miyako's eyes. "Please." They whispered, "The voice has a plan, and I'm taking the risk."

Miyako sighed dramatically. "Tides, this is still a terrible plan." 

Miyako pulled back on the Shadow, letting the dark shroud sink into her skin. She stumbled forward into Hyron, grumbling.

Hyron caught Miyako, picking her up princess style. Hyron grinned at Miyako's tiredness. "Thank you," They whispered.

"Alright," They shouted, "We surrender! Release our companion and we can finalize this!"

"...your welcome." Miyako still glared at a guard over Hyron's shoulder, the kind of stare that said you know your were going down.

"Also, gimme my sword." Miyako said to the room.

A soldier approached, bearing Miyako's sword, and bowed in offering.

The Queen appeared in the doorway, her skin even paler than it had been before, and rushed over to her daughter's side. A man in gold robes knelt besides her, his hands hovering over where Miyako had cut her, evidently performing some sort of healing magic. He bowed and moved back silently as the Queen approached to Theenvelop her daughter in a hug. "Oh, Mariel," she murmured. "I'm so sorry."

Mariel smiled. "It's alright, Mother. It doesn't hurt anymore."

Lethe squeezed even tighter. "They'll never hurt you again. I promise you that. They won't get within-"

The princess looked up. "No!" The Queen blinked in surprise, but let her continue. "Can I... have them? To practice on?"

The Queen hesitated for a moment. "Are you sure?" she replied with concern.

Mariel's nod was firm. "Yes. I'm sure. Please?"

A sigh. "Alright." Lethe kissed her daughter's forehead lightly. "Tomorrow. You should rest." She stood up, her eyes lingering on Mariel as she was carried from the room. Then she turned to the others.

"My soldiers will take you to your rooms," she said briskly. "We will discuss the terms of your service tomorrow."

"We're stalking screwed," Hyron muttered, having heard the entire conversation, but followed the soldiers to their rooms.

"Acolyte," They said, "Take a room for yourself, I'll take one with Stuck Up while she recovers."

 Miyako snatched her sword and cradled it close. 

Miyako grinned at Hyron. "Viney, I was already gonna ask for a rematch. This is great!"

"You need rest," Hyron said, and grew a vine from their wrist to grab the canteen of water from their waist, "And this," They said, proffering it, "Drink."

The soldiers led Yerik and Hyron out of the throne room and up a set of stairs. And up... and up... and up.

Finally they stopped. "Here we are."

The rooms were circular, stacked one on top of the other inside the winding of the stairs. They were all lit with the same strange metal lights that had illuminated the throne room. The decorations were austere but not totally bare. There were no windows.

The guards that had led them there stood at attention outside each of the doors.

They set Miyako down on one of the beds. "Rest." Hyron said firmly. "And keep drinking this," Hyron said, taking the canteen from the vine and handing it directly to Miyako.

Miyako passed back into some form of conciseness and fumbled to wrap her fingers around Hyron's canteen.

"Because," Hyron said, setting their pack down on their bed and sitting down, "You need to recover, you've just held unimaginable amounts of power and almost died, and you shouldn't do that alone."
