“Adventure, of course.” Vance brought out his knives. “Honestly, I just like going out and doing things and learning things. I spent awhile going out on my own, ‘cause my sister and I never really had the same idea of a good adventure.”

"She's a year younger than me, but she's always acted like she's way older." Vance chuckled. "Really strict and such. She's great."

Something was off.

Vance frowned, still walking along. "You still have your blindfold, right?"

“Okay…” she tied it around her eyes, tangled it with her hair, and then destroyed it. Grumbling, she tore another strip of cloth from her tunic and used that. “I need a hair elastic.”

As they set off down the path, the town fell away from them on both sides to reveal miles of farmland. The scenery was pretty, in a quaint way; the rising sun made the hills glow gold. The road was smooth and easy to traverse. They passed many other travelers on their way, most moving the same direction as them, to Caerlon proper.

Hyron made a vine split down the middle, grab a guard by the face, and slam him into the ground. Damn, Hyron thought, That felt good.

Hyron looked around. Yerik was still fighting a few guards, and a couple more were edging towards Hyron, fear apparent in their stance, despite their blank expressions.

Hyron heard the princess scream, then smashed the two guards' heads together, and turned.

The princess was choking Miyako with some sort of strange magic rope... or maybe it was just rope. Regardless, Miyako was not doing well.

Hyron took a drink from her canteen, then launched into the air with a vine. They came down fast, slicing the rope around Miyako's neck, but it remained in place. Hyron cursed, shoving the princess back a few feet with a vine. Knowing it was only a temporary solution, Hyron grabbed Miyako's hand and Breathed on the rope. it didn't budge. Hyron cursed again, instead using a vine to quickly cut it away, peeling off the stiff cord to open Miyako's airways.

"Breathe," Hyron muttered as the princess recovered, preparing a counter attack, "Breathe, breathe, breathe. Come on," Hyron said, shaking her, voice rising.

Something else began to rise, from deep inside Hyron. A power, a feeling, something ancient and benevolent and strong.

"Breathe!" Hyron shouted, willing Miyako to breathe.

Very rare Hwindi ability, uncontrollable except by powerful emotion. Xino, have the princess attack, just making up for lost time, and it didn't do much, but if this works, it hopefully should, then Miyako should live, but Hyron will be exhausted and severely dehydrated. Miyako will be quite energized though.

The princess screamed out a curse and brought her golden ropes crashing down on the pair, weaving through their arms and legs and plunging into the white stone beneath, anchoring them to the floor.

Hyron ignored the golden ropes, which were tightening around their and Miyako's bodies.

Miyako still wasn't breathing, but the power remained. Hyron looked at the ropes, seeing their face in the reflection.

Their marblings were still there, but their eyes... their eyes were glowing. Glowing a deep, forest green.

Hyron gasped, and when that breath released, flowers covered that section of the golden rope, which then disintegrated, floating away in small green motes.

Hyron looked down at Miyako, up at the princess, then back down at Miyako.

They couldn't think. Miyako wasn't breathing, they were trapped, and despite having just found a way to escape, part of them knew it was worthless.

Hyron curved their body around Miyako's, protecting her, preparing for death. They hissed through their teeth, and Breath came out. But not light blue, like normal. No, this was a soft, gentle green. And it gathered around Miyako, a shield, or an aura, of green.

And nothing happened. Hyron didn't see it happen, their eyes squeezed shut.

On the other side of the room, Yerik slumped to the ground as the guards surrounded him, not even trying to resist.

Guards surrounded Hyron and MIyako, blades hovering inches from their skin. One, wearing armor of gold, went to stand besides the princess. A piece broke off as the princess touched it, flowing down and replacing the part that Hyron had destroyed.

Miyako slipped back into consciousness, gasping for air. Fear gripped at her as she remembered the rope stealing away her life, slowly choking, but...Hyron had saved her. She felt there body tight against her own, felt their magic dancing around her. Miyako wanted to laugh and cry and run all at the same time. And Hyron...she wanted to kiss them until she lost her breath all over again. They were dangerous feelings, the kind that could lead to pain, but at the moment Miyako didn't particularly care.

No, focus. You can do all that stuff later. Guards surrounded Miyako and Hyron and the princess seemed to be healing or something. Yerik, oh acolyte, he was slumped against the ground, having lost his will to fight. 

But Hyron had saved her, someone might actually cared. And there was no way in Orteo that Miyako was going to let the Queen take Hyron from her. Miyako would fight tooth and nail first, it's just that clean cut.

Breathing in deeply, Miyako reached out for her Shadow. The cold darkness swept over her, trying to make into little more then a soulless killer. But this time it was tempered with a lone spark of purpose, a warmth that Miyako held close in the storm. 

Miyako began to stand, snapping the measly threads that held her down. Hyron's vibrant aura intermeshed with the soul of night that surrounded her. Miyako grinned.

Hyron realized what this was. This was an Attunement, of the highest order, a NexAttunement.

The princess, the voice whispered. She doesn't seem concerned at all. As if she knows something you don't. As if she knows she can't lose.
