This was never out of any shortcoming, however, because the common folks never stood a chance in the first place. With talent it was different. Talent was intrinsic and unimpeachable. In that case… “The aether stone was taken from your mansion,” Lady M said, “just last night. That’s why I summoned you here.” “...Aether stone?” “I planted it there just in case. Why needn’t concern you. I’ve been less disturbed by your retreat than I was by someone finding that last night.” Lady M sat up to look her child in the eye. “I was worried the thief might’ve been one of my enemies, but now…” A single experienced warrior and a group of students happening to find an almost perfectly concealed layer domain? Talent indeed. “I’ll make you a deal, Arcaene,” Lady M said. “Find me these individuals. Do that and I will forgive you this failure.” She dropped onto her fist again, feeling… different. “Mmm… perhaps I’ll even grant you that knowledge you’ve been seeking.” “M-my lady!” M waved her off with a singsong hum. “Dismissed, little child.” @Ookla the Inverted Edited December 31, 2022 by Channelknight Fadran

She hoped with all her heart that this would go away soon. If it didn't they might get mad at her for being sick. Or she would slow them down. And then they wouldn't want to be around her as much and Fiadh was terrified of that.
