“Oh. Thanks.” She examines the drawing again. “You didn’t sleep? I’m sorry.”

Fiadh sits down. "Don't be. I didn't really want to. There was too much to think about."

"Do you have lodging? Perhaps up in a tree?"

"We don't have any treehouses, if that's what you are asking. Unless," he continued drily, "you count the homes near the forest line."

Hyron raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Nayka nodded. “Interesting…” hands Fiadh a paper. “Do you draw?”

"So overgrown they are essentially... " He sighed. "Never mind."

Fiadh looked at the paper. "I've never tried it before. Never had anything to draw with."

"Are there mass amounts of foliage?" Hyron asked.

The First Elder waved a hand. "You probably saw it on the way in. Nobody's lived there good a long time, so stuff has just... broken down."

“You just hold it and make marks with the pointy end. Circles. Dots. A snowstorm of swirls. Whatever.”

Fiadh frowned a little. Why is there so much stuff that I haven't done? She put the pencil on the paper and drew a little swirly thing. "Like that?"

Fiadh smiles a little and draws some more swirly things. Then she hands the pencil back to Nayka.

Fiadh shakes her head. "I don't know how to write either."

Sahala wanders over, yawning. "What are you doing? Can I join in?"

She has an extremely hopeful and desperate look on her face that she tries and fails to hide.

"Oh! Good! So now we just need to figure out what they all mean to know how to use them, right?"

"Yes! But we know enough runes that I have completed some very rudimentary rune circles. But, now we can test every rune to find its properties. We can do active testing now that we can are own rune circles."

"So you're saying," said Anikel slowly, "that the trees themselves are angry at us?"

Annimus pauses, "If you want to think about it like that, then yes. It's more complex than that, but that's basically it."
