Redbee Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 So I've been wondering after nightblood has it's fill of investiture and was full following the rayse incident, would it be safe to wield for a time? 3
Frustration Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 I don't know that Nightblood would ever be safe. 3
Honorless he/him Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Do you really want to hold Nightblood after seeing that? It would never be truly safe. He did eat a lot of Investiture but Nightblood himself is leaky. Would how much power you pour into him really matter more than his own holding capacity? I don't think he'd be "safe" for long.
Quantus he/him Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Im going with no. Even if his appetite has slowed to the point where he isnt like an active black-hole perpendicularity that can eat Vessels does not mean he isnt still draining some non-zero amount of Investiture from it's wielder to keep the proverbial Lights On, and if so there's still the danger of using their Life Spark to fuel it if they are not careful.
dannnex male Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 The black smoke that nightblood leaks is it losing investiture so while it might be safe-ish for a time it'l be hungry again pretty soon
Redbee Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 Ah okay thank you, I wonder if nightblood was too bond a spren and achieve higher ideals would it lessen the investiture leakage.. 2

I doubt Nightblood could bond a spren. Even if it actually worked, I don't know that it would work. Nightblood leaks because there is too much investiture stuffed in him. Even if he was made to hold more, that would only let him hold more investiture before reaching the point at which it would begin leaking. So it might temporarily slow down the leaking if Nightblood somehow managed to bond a spren, but eventually it would reach around the same level.

Could Nightblood bond a spren and become a Radiant? Brandon Sanderson Could Nightblood bond a spren-- *drowned out by laughter* That one's just a bit farfetched. *laughter* I rarely say anything is impossible but let's just say that one's pretty farfetched. Honestly, I'd be terrified if Knightblood (my favorite character in Warbreaker, for the record) were ever truly safe to use. If it's powerful enough to damage an honorblade, collapse Honor's perpendicularity, and kill an admittedly vulnerable Shard of Adolnasium, then it would be a complete game changer in that scenario. Even on the scale of the desolations.
HSuperLee Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 So while I am of the rare opinion that Nightblood is already relatively close to being completely saturated with investiture and can't actually eat as much as people think they can (for example I believe they were almost "full" near the end of the battle of Thaylen field) I also think we can't ignore that part of Nightblood's command is to destroy and thus Nightblood seems to be able to do damage outside of just eating investiture. I believe that even if Nightblood was completely full, they'd still turn the three realms into smoke and destroy things, even if they were incapable of the investiture released in that process.

Nightblood is more than full, the smoke leaking out of him is excess investiture being released.

cometaryorbit Posted December 16, 2021 Posted December 16, 2021 Yeah, he might be safe to wield... briefly, until he gets hungry again. Definitely not safe to be hit by, he's still a super Shardblade.
