Where was the word "Lerasium" introduced in the books?

There's lots of references on the coppermind wiki about Lerasium, but I can't find any related to the books. If someone had only read the books and had not participated in any signing or readings of WoB and had not seen the Hemalurgy table, would they know the name for preservation's metal?

Hi, and welcome to the Shard!

The short answer to your question is. No. Not really.

The only place you see the word Lerasium in any of the novels is in the Hemalurgy chart for the 10th anniversary edition of Hero Of Ages(leatherbound edition)

besides that its never mentioned by name anywhere other than WoB's and what not

That is incorrect. It is mentioned in the epilogue of Shadows of Self.

Quote

Marasi felt a chill. "Then … it's not His? Not from His form, like the old stories of atium and lerasium?"

Thank you! I think that the first sentence of the Lerasium wiki page should be cited with this quote, or this quote should be added to the page.

Sure I suppose, but we did learn the metal's name in 2008 and it is present in all of the Metallic Arts tables. I would not say that Shadows of Self line is really the reason we know of it.

That said the opening paragraph on the lerasium page does need a lot more citations than what it currently has.

As far as I can tell the first use of it (mispelled in Brandon's original post) is in the TWG post HoA Q&A (2008) -

So here's my last question. If there ARE people on the other side of the world, did Vin kill them all by placing the sun on their side, or do they have they're own Ruin/Preservation battle going on over there as well? Do they also have allomancy feruchemy and hemalurgy?

Brandon Sanderson

No, they're not dead. Yes, Rashek was aware of them. In fact, he placed them there as a reserve. I knew he wanted a 'control' group of people in case his changes to genetics ended with the race being in serious trouble. All I'll say is that he found a way other than changing them genetically to help them survive in the world he created. And since they were created by Ruin and Preservation, they have the seeds of the Three Metallic Arts in them—though without anyone among them having burned Lerasium, Allomancers would have been very rare in their population and full Mistborn unheard of.

Kinda funny that he just dropped it in passing.  A subsequent post from @Chaos supports the inference this was the first time we heard the term.
