Who got Mraize's pants dirty?

Recommended Posts

If we agree that he got Amberite on his pants, who did that? If we assume that he himself does not carry Amberite, then we have two possibilities

  1. He kept worldhopping in the middle of a war
  2. Somebody other than himself is carrying the Amberite on Roshar?

Do the Ghostbloods have a group of military style enforcers using Amberite?

One possibility is that nobody is using the Amberite but it's delicate enough that some of it crumbled and stained his clothes the last time he handled it for whatever reason. Shallan does note that bits of it appear to have flaked off so it's possible some of those flakes caused the staining, rather than someone using it or another Amberite bud and Mraize getting the resulting dust on his pants. One thing we do know for certain that if anybody is using that piece of Amberite, it's not Mraize.

That said, assuming that it works the same in the canon works as it does in Aether and it is possible for someone not from whichever planet their on to use them, Amberite is a very nice power to have and would be really useful for a group like the Ghostbloods. You get extremely strong armor that's probably got some Investiture-shielding properites (in Aether we know that opposing bonds repel one another) and you can make weapons or useful tools out of it, even impromptu artificial limbs.

Possible, but a bit, well, wouldn't you think that in the middle of an apocalyptic war Mraize has better things to do than to handle a show piece?

One of the things Mraize would do however, would be to train against users of Amberite.

It would be strange for an organization that can use Amberite not to use it.

My speculation is that the stain is not from Amberite. Instead, it's from a Ferrous bond. The stain is described as a mix of oil and blood, which makes me think it's the "blood" of a corpate. Maybe he injured the corpate, which bled on him, when securing his piece of Amberite.

I am afraid I don't see the temporal sequence on this working. The pants were cleaned a considerable time after Shallan saw the Amberite on display. At that time a war was going on. When and where would Mraize meet a Corpate under those circumstances?
